This emotional story about a dysfunctional family focuses on eight year old Edgar. The over bearing grandmother, and Edgar's remote mother create such a tragic environment that it's difficult to engage with the story. But, this changes after the first hundred pages. I found this book well written, and impactful.

Readers who like mystery and historical fiction will enjoy this book. This book will keep you guessing who did it through out.

With all the twist and turns, everyone becomes a suspect. This is the first book that I've read by this author, and I'm looking forward to the next.

I would encourage readers to read the first book before reading this one. There are a number of references and inferences to the first book, and had wished that's I had read it.

This is the first book that I read from this author. Once I settled into the parallel stories of the characters, I found myself drawn in. I will definitely read more books from this author, and will recommend this to other readers.

Although this gets off to a slow start, do not put this book down!!! Lucy who sets off to be a 'man' in the mid-1900's, this book reveals the trials and prejudices as she explores her sexuality. Although her identity is revealed, one can rejoice in her fortitude. This is a great book for those who enjoy historical ficton. A great book for book clubs.....
