Castle of Water: A Novel
by Dane Huckelbridge
A pleasant surprise (12/15/2016)
I enjoyed this story of being tossed out of the known world, surviving, and finding a place back in the world. While satisfying as a castaway tale, it also contemplates the kind of life-altering love that endures after death.
Cruel Beautiful World
by Caroline Leavitt
A story true to the time/place while exploring the timeless mysteries of relationships (8/17/2016)
Caroline Leavitt's novel is spot on in its portrayal of the 1970s and the mood of that era. The characters' relationships set in that world are wonderful studies of the timeless ways people experience and express love; for good and for ill. Realistic and truthful portrayals. A great read!
Shelter
by Jung Yun
Interesting read (1/22/2016)
I was quickly engaged in the story and characters in this book. I came away appreciating that the experiences passed down from one generation to the next are impossible to escape. I would read the next book Jung Yun writes.
The Book of Speculation
by Erika Swyler
Draws you in and gives you a rich journey (4/26/2015)
I enjoyed this book and I was drawn in immediately. Water for Elephants came to mind as I read the circus portions of the story. This is a satisfying read that blends past, present, mystery, ancestry, and family. It's a great ride populated with memorable characters. Well done.
