Thanks to BookBrowse I have a new author to love. I too am from a rural town with dreams of leaving at a young age. I can relate to the strong tug of family and blood ties.

I truly enjoyed the unique plot. Life is full of good and bad moments. How we process both determines how our world will be. Looking forward to reading more works from this author.

I have to say I really learned a lot from a little girl captured by Indians. I learned I have too many things, you can use coins as weapons and you can't always trust blood kin. I collect books. I have several by this author but this is the first for me to actually read. Now I am excited to go back and read the rest of her novels. I would definitely recommend this to my sister to read. Thanks again for the opportunity to discover another author to love.

I tried hard to finish book. My problem was the subtle hints of attraction b/w child and adult. I realize this was probably resolved in end. I just couldn't get past the "willies" until end. I enjoyed author's prose. Kept my attention but I still found myself saying "gross". Then I skipped ahead...unfortunately I picked the wrong section to keep me reading.

When I review a great book I always regret that I can't write well. All I can say is this is one of the best books ever. It is extremely rare to find a book that you want to read every word because you are afraid you will miss something amazing. I know in my crazing overwhelming world, my time to read is limited. I often find my self speed reading. I did not want to with this book. For example, there is a description of the characters finding a decaying body. Ava wanted every body buried so their souls could be at peace. Callum tried really hard to please her but the limbs of body kept falling off. This sounds gruesome but it was actually a sweet moment. I actually laughed out loud picturing the scene. When I tried to explain to my husband he really thought I had lost it. The tale of the consequences of war is heartbreaking but the good people the couple met during their flight from the Colonel was heartwarming. Thank you BookBrowse for the perfect read. I will share this book with my sister and track this author. Really hope to see more novels from Mr Brown. Never thought I would love a horse thief!

I judge most books to be sister worthy or not! I would definitely share this one with her. We both love to escape into a book. This book has it all but not too much. I have always enjoyed stories of Merlin. I am not great at reviewing without giving away plot. Just take my word that if it is sister worthy ....it is good. Thanks BookBrowse!

I really enjoyed this book initially. I kept getting frustrated trying to piece the chapters together. I realize that in the end it would all make sense. I just didn't care by the last few chapters. I am not a short story fan. I think this is what turned me off. Every chapter was very well written. I am sure lots of people will love this and understand the connections of stories. I just couldn't make myself go into the future chapters. I will definitely save and try again someday. Thanks Bookbrowse for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Thank you for allowing me to review this book. There was a perfect mix of mystery, magic and a little romance. I was initially frustrated with skipping between Tilda and Seren's life. Once I settled into the rhythm of the story, I was hooked. I read Brackston first novel. Now I will purchase her second. My job in medicine is my reality. My reading is my escape. I have read three of Tiffany Baker's novels. She has yet to disappoint me. Always leaves me surprised and craving more. I love beginning a new novel. I hate ending one!

I really enjoyed this book. I love all of Sarah Addison Allen's books! I always hate for any of her books to end. I judge a book by its ability to shock me at the end. The imaginary friend was great. I am truly sorry that I didn't enjoy this book. I struggled through finding myself skipping pages. I did not like the heroine. I did not care what happened to her. I kept chanting "too many books too little time." This is the first time I hated to report on a book. I am sure that others enjoyed the book. My reading is my escape from a crazy job and other life stressors. This book felt like homework.

Really enjoyed this novel. I was drawn into story immediately. I actually cared about characters so much that I looked up more information about the coal mine fires. I would read this author again. When I received my copy of this book in the mail, I really didn't think I would be able to finish it by the deadline. It is huge. But I loved the flow of the novel. I cared about what happened to the characters. I enjoyed reading about a different culture without feeling I was in a history lesson. I will now read the first novel in this series. Would recommend this for anyone looking for a great escape to New Zealand. Thanks BookBrowse for another new author to enjoy.

I hate to rate any novel as average. I cannot imagine how difficult it is to be an author. I I just couldn't latch on the story. I was very interested in subject but I got lost in the multiple characters. In the end I just didn't care. I just wanted the novel to end.

Slow read initially but once started I couldn't put it down. Author keep me interested in story. I really was surprised by the ending. This book had it all. I enjoyed the history without feeling bogged down with facts. There was a hint of romance. The best part was the mystery. Would definitely read this author again.

Thanks for this opportunity to give my first impression. I always read to escape. My work has enough realism. I love to read a book and forget everything around me. I couldn't wait to get back to reading each time my responsibilities made me stop. There was just the right mix of suspense, romance and history. I look forward to reading more novels by Megan Chance. Sometimes I find myself rushing the ending of a book in order to get to the next one. I always want to be in a story not ending one. That was not possible with this novel. I didn't want to miss anything. Great read.
