Gone So Long
by Andre Dubus III
Gone So Long (10/6/2018)
Gone so Long by Andre Dubus III would be a great discussion for any book club. It is well written and easy to read but will tear at you heart strings. A tragic event in a family that no one will ever forget, and how their lives are effected. You will get to know very well the victims and the man who caused the violence.
The Kennedy Debutante
by Kerri Maher
The Kennedy Debutante (6/4/2018)
This is a great summer read. A story about a very powerful U.S. family set mostly in London. A story about a Catholic girl and her strong faith and the issues she has to deal with in love and family. Historical fiction with lots of personal stories. Those who are drawn to reading about the Kennedys will enjoy it. Well written and easy to read.
Only Child
by Rhiannon Navin
Only Child by Rhiannon Navin (1/6/2018)
Only Child is a great book to read. I was hooked from the first page. The book flows very well. It is a hard subject matter to read about, but written through the eyes of a child is very interesting. You will truely think a child has written this, not because of the writing but because of his views and how he tried to handle a school shooting and the lost of his brother. The author did a wonderful job of giving us his view. I would recommend this book for all book clubs.
The Necklace
by Claire McMillan
The Necklace (6/7/2017)
The Necklace was a great book. I read it in a couple of days. The writing style was very interesting. Going from 2009 to 1925 in every other chapter, makes you want to read more. You are able to figure out some of the answers to your questions as you go back in time, but you will want to keep reading to put all the family puzzle pieces together. The Indian necklace adds so much to the story. Where did Ambrose get it and why was it given to Nell? You will love reading this book.
A Piece of the World: A Novel
by Christina Baker Kline
A Piece of the World (1/3/2017)
I loved Christina book ORPHAN TRAIN, so that was a hard act to follow but this is a very good book with lots to think about. Love and struggles being the main theme, between family members, friends and couples.
The Tea Planter's Wife
by Dinah Jefferies
The Tea Planter's Wife (7/25/2016)
The Tea Planter's Wife by Dinah Jefferies gets you involved in the book from the first sentence. It was easy to read and the author made you feel you were living on a tea plantation. I enjoyed the new information about the tea business. This book was a good example of what all can go wrong when information is keep from each other and what it does to a family. A few good twist will keep you interested until the end. I recommend this book for a light summer read.
