Mothers of Sparta: A Memoir in Pieces
by Dawn Davies
Mothers of Sparta is a Great Book (9/12/2017)
Mothers of Sparta was a book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. This memoir was not sugarcoated and it described life with honesty- the good, the bad, and the ugly. It appealed to me in particular due to my state in life (thirty something married mom). It is definitely a book worth reading - any mom can relate and will appreciate this book.
Happiness: The Crooked Little Road to Semi-Ever After
by Heather Harpham
Beautiful Memoir (5/30/2017)
This book was absolutely incredible. Considering my 'season' in life (early 30s and having kids), I could easily put myself right in her shoes. Her writing was full of pure and raw emotion which I found incredibly beautiful. I highly recommend this memoir...it was a definite page-turner and tear jerker. It also gives you a shock to reality and makes you want to enjoy each and every moment with your kids.
The Resurrection of Joan Ashby
by Cherise Wolas
Great Debut Novel by Cherise Wolas (5/14/2017)
Wow. The Resurrection of Joan Ashby by Cherise Wolas was an incredible novel. I was blown away by how beautifully her writing  captured a family's tumultuous journey together spanning several decades of time. Joan Manning, a wife and mother, redicovering her former self, Joan Ashby, a famous writer, who has for years been hidden from the world-- a story so many women can relate to in their own way but yet a story so unique. I highly recommend this book!!
No One Is Coming to Save Us
by Stephanie Powell Watts
Nice Read (3/23/2017)
I could definitely see similarities between this book and The Great Gatsby. The author did a good job of developing the characters throughout the entire book. The start did hold my interest and I was very interested in the outcome of each individual character. I found myself sympathizing with Ava the most-  probably more so because of our closeness in age. Without giving too much away, although I hurt for her situation, it was nice to see a happy 'ending' for her just not in the way you might expect. I highly encourage readers to take the time to read this book. It's not The Great Gatsby but I think it's a good story and has a lot of wisdom and practical life advice. By the end of the book, I had highlighted my fair share of meaningful quotes !
Extraordinary Adventures
by Daniel Wallace
Great Book (2/9/2017)
Extraordinary Adventures was a wonderful book! The story focuses on Edsel Bronfman and his 'quest' to find a companion for the trip to Destin that he won. The author's vivid and detailed writing painted an excellent picture in my mind of Edsels predictability and 'boring' life. The book really draws you in and I could not put the book down until I knew which one of the three he finally ended up with. I thought it was a wonderful story with an excellent plot and the authors excellent skill in writing made the story come alive in my mind. Excellent read and I highly recommend this book. One of the best that I've read in a while.
