The Never-Open Desert Diner
by James Anderson
Memorable One-Liners (5/8/2017)
A well-located setting for colorful characters and creative "getting-by" and the noir type narrative kept me turning the pages in this debut novel. I jotted down some of those great one-liners as I went along.
The Farm
by Tom Rob Smith
A son torn between belief in his father or belief in his mother. (8/25/2015)
I was immediately pulled into this puzzle between a son and his distraught parents. I will soon be reading more works by this author!
Burial Rites
by Hannah Kent
Fate plays a hand in this historical novel (8/25/2015)
Themes of capital punishment, injustice, and poverty are balanced somewhat by friendship and kindness. The imagery is bold and at times breathtaking. The story is haunting.
