This book accomplished what all good literature must do; it changed my perceptions of the world I live in. I knew virtually nothing about the civil wars raging in Sri Lanka, or about the terrible atrocities that have occurred there in the past 15-20 years, and continue to this day. In addition, the insights into the hearts and minds of the characters touched me to my very core. I wept at the conclusion of the novel. It is a perfectly realized novel, weaving facts, fiction, mythology and science into a complete and completely satisfying reading experience.

I found Angela's Ashes to be one of the best books that I have read. Although I found it hard to get into, by the end of the first chapter I was right. The way that Frank McCourt describes parts of his childhood with no hate or nastyness amazes me. I would not recommend that you watch the film first because without actually reading the words that he writes you can not fully understand the book and the excellent descriptions of events. Although the film is still a good one, it is a disappointment in comparison to the book itself. How a person continues to remain positive and and come out of all he endured a better person amazes me. I was thought a bit curious about how Frank McCourt managed to write in such detail events that happened when he was so young, so i wonder is it all exactly correct. No matter what is said about this book it is a wonderful read and an absolutely inspirational story of a childhood.

What a terrifyingly beautiful book. At one moment it's breaking your heart, and the next it's bringing deep laughs. How young Frank managed to evolve into such a graceful and lovely man is a miracle...or a novel by the title 'Tis. We Irish have a great capacity for outliving our misery!

I thought that Angela's Ashes was an amazing autobiography that i completely related to. Not related so much to the poverty, more of the distress and endless sad memories of my own childhood. Being from Long Island or even America, there was a ton of racism against me being Irish and all. I even saw the movie which kept me laughing and crying the entire time!:)

Angela's Ashes is a novel unlike any others I have read. Not only does it keep you wanting more, but brings out your every emotion. Frank McCourt is a truly wonderful author that makes you feel as though you are sharing his experiences right along with him.

This book really got me thinking. McCourt really made me realize that we cannot live by our greed for materials. The whole time I felt that I was there with Frank, struggling. I laughed, I cried, I did the whole bit. Great Book!!!

As I picked up this book, I was suddenly captivated by it's vivid descriptions. Frank McCourt sets up each scene in detail so that, by the middle of the book, you can actually feel the spirit of Ireland moving over you. McCourt's descriptions show the fear of destitution and poverty and then encourage happiness and confidence as we watch the resiliency of the human spirit.

I was told by my cousin that Angela's Ashes was an inspirational book. It shows how one's hopes and dreams can become a reality with hard work and endurance. When I read this book I was intrigued, depressed, sad and mad by the actions of certain people in the book especially Malachy (father). This book has taught me to reach for my goals and dreams. It was truly wonderful.

I thought Angela's Ashes was a great book. It was so hard to put it down. I cried and I laughed and it left me wanting more. I can't wait to read Tis'. I would recommend this book to anybody. As a 15 year old teenage girl who is use to reading "junk" as my mom tells me it was quite a struggle to get into Angela's Ashes. Although once I got started I found it hard to put down. It gave me an inside view of what poverty is really like. Well done Frank McCourt!

When I read Angela's Ashes, I couldn't help but wonder whether he had exaggerated some parts of his life to make the book more interesting. I also wouldn't advise watching the film before you read the book. When you read the book you feel cheated. However, the book did have good penmanship and was particularly good in describing the deaths of his siblings.

For some reason I just didn't like this book... I heard reviews and I read it. It took me forever to finish it.... My friend Liz read it, and didn't like it either... I have Irish background so it was helpful to me and I liked that it was set in World War 2, ( like Frank had a say in what time period he lived in!) The history in the time was different for Ireland and it was different to know what was happening around that time period...

what can I say? The book was great! So much better than the film! It's funny, quirky and completely shows how innocent Frank was when he was young, well for a while! definitely one to recommend!

I was so impressed with Mr. McCourt's book it brought back memories of stories my father told me of growing up in the depression years .how hard the times were the battles people fought in just everyday living to find food and shelter unbelievable I wish my father were alive to read his book its a must for anyone whose wanting to know what life was like for the not so fortunate. the Irish Americans such as my self have a reason to be proud frank mccourt embodies the spirit in all of our loved ones who lived in that era !!hats off mr .mccourt you truly deserve all that's been bestowed upon you......thank you William e Stapp quincy il.
