The Henna Artist: The Jaipur Trilogy #1
by Alka Joshi
the henna artist (3/13/2020)
If you have ever been to India, you will fondly remember the food, bright colors, gorgeous saris. All your senses come alive in India.
Alka Joshi's book the Henna Artist helps you relive India, in every aspect!
if you are unaware of India and would love to visit there---this is the book for you. It is a great learning tool to introduce you to the caste system, the Hindu-Islamic issues, the exorbitant wealth and the desperate poor of the untouchables.
The story is a portrayed by an independently focused female henna artist. She is determined to rise above her abusive force marriage at age 15. The story is fascinating and enticing to continue reading to the final chapter. A sequel will surely follow.
A woman's book club would have many issue to discuss---cultures, religions, food, clothes, abuse and determination. I recommend this book!
The Prisoner's Wife
by Maggie Brookes
The Prisoner's Wife (2/14/2020)
Reading the premise of the book, could this really have happened? The author, using historical data, embellishes the story using her own imagination to tell the tale. This is an epic true story, of a heroic woman and all her friends, suffering the prison camps of WWII. Maggie Brookes' descriptive writing easily captures the readers' interest. The story is a unique perspective of WWII. After all the trauma, the reader hopes there is a happy ending--that the human spirit will endure all the horrible war tragedies. I highly recommend this book for women's book clubs!
