Creepy rollercoaster ride! (7/13/2023)
I totally enjoyed this disturbing thriller! Crazy good fun that kept me on edge the entire way! I loved every terrifying word of this psychological white knuckle thriller! Don't miss this one!
Hotel Cuba: A Novel
by Aaron Hamburger
Wonderful historical fiction (4/11/2023)
Oh my gosh I loved everything about this book! The story, based on the author's grandparents, was interesting, engaging and simply a wonderful read. I learned so much about Cuba during post WWI, the older days of Cuba, and loved following the journey of Pearl and Frieda. I feel privileged to have been able to read a copy of this wonderful book before it's release.
Pieces of Blue
by Holly Goldberg Sloan
Heartwarming (2/5/2023)
This story in this book made my heart happy. It's a charming story but includes some drama and a little mystery. I loved the descriptions set in Hawaii and felt the islands tropics every time I opened the book.
Clytemnestra: A Novel
by Costanza Casati
Clytemnestra the Queen (11/12/2022)
4.5 STARS ..I am a huge fan of Greek Mythology...this book was a winner for me. Not knowing as much about Clytemnestra as her sister, Helen, I devoured this information on a Queen who has a past reputation as being evil. She was a devoted mother to her children and guarded them with her life. As with everything Mythological, the book has grit, greed, war, grief and a disrespect of life...but I loved reading about this particular family. Author did a great job of bringing these characters to life.
Exiles: Aaron Falk Mystery #3
by Jane Harper
Another good mystery (8/7/2022)
I've read all of Jane Harper's books. She always writes a solid mystery and this one is no exception. This story has a slow build to get to the true meet of the matter but once you got there it did keep you guessing until the end. Her books in my opinion are good mysteries but do not belong in the thriller category that they are sometimes placed into. She does have a way of building her characters so that they are extremely lifelike and I enjoyed the personalities of all of the characters in this particular story.
Good Husbands: A Novel
by Cate Ray
Thought provoking (3/16/2022)
This would make an excellent Book Club selection: members would love debating the pros and cons of this story. Characters were real enough and I enjoyed the storyline.
Lady Sunshine
by Amy Mason Doan
Loved this vibe (5/9/2021)
My genre is usually a great psychological thriller but I lost myself in this bohemian world of musicians, surfers and artists. The author wrote and created a free spirited world you could actually feel...The 70's in California...what is better than sun, surf, and secrets...start reading.
Black Widows: A Novel
by Cate Quinn
Whopper of a thriller! (1/14/2021)
I loved this book and all of the tension that went with it! A list of characters that hit the mark and kept me guessing until the end. Subject matter that is certainly on the forefront right now...as it should be. No spoilers, read for yourself and prepare to be intrigued and spellbound.
Daughter of the Reich: A Novel
by Louise Fein
WWII winner! (4/12/2020)
I absolutely loved this story. I read many books in this genre and Daughter of the Reich has been one of the best. The despair in this story became almost tangible. More than a love story... more than historical fiction: rather both wrapped up in one novel with characters you root for.
Red Letter Days
by Sarah-Jane Stratford
Intrigue and humor (11/10/2019)
I really enjoyed the way this author paired light humor with suspense and intrigue. She also merged fact with fiction and I was carried along by this story until the end.
The Secrets We Kept: A novel
by Lara Prescott
Refreshing historical fiction (7/20/2019)
What a delicious, refreshing historical fictional novel from a debut author, who obviously put his heart and soul into the research and writing. A combination of love story and espionage set during the Cold War makes for a fascinating story. The background of the struggle to have Doctor Zhivago published was a surprise for me and I enjoyed every minute of this eye-opening reading experience. Thank you BookBrowse.
Sounds Like Titanic: A Memoir
by Jessica Chiccehitto Hindman
Imposters abound (1/1/2019)
This was an intriguing memoir filled with humor, surprises and inspiration. Not a heavy memoir but filled with substance. I enjoyed this unique storyline and found the author's writing style kept me engrossed until the end.
My Lovely Wife
by Samantha Downing
Twists and turns (10/23/2018)
This is my kind of book! Totally off the beaten path and full of twists....thrillers are a trending genre right now and it's difficult to find unique story lines. This one is somewhat unbelievable however it's a fun read and I couldn't wait to see how it ended.
The Kennedy Debutante
by Kerri Maher
The engrossing Kennedy family (6/3/2018)
I love reading novels about the Kennedys...I wanted to like this book so much! It simply dragged for me. The first few chapters were interesting and engrossing but as the story unfolded it became stagnant. I did learn some interesting information about Kick and the family, however, I felt there was much fluff in the book to make it to a certain number of pages. I would read this author again though and appreciated the opportunity.
Vox
by Christina Dalcher
Vox - interesting read (4/30/2018)
Everyone will compare this story to The Handmaid's Tale and I am no exception. While I enjoyed the story, I found myself flipping through the last 20 pages to get to the end. This was a great story in there somewhere, and I was somewhat captivated by the first half of the book, but felt it beginning to wane toward the last third. I did think the idea of 100 words per day (and the punishment for over speaking) very creative and unsettling...this author is just getting her feet wet and I am anxious to read her next book.
As Bright as Heaven
by Susan Meissner
Bright as Heaven (11/13/2017)
I have read 4 books by this author and have found all of them fascinating. I love how she incorporates history into her novels while making you feel you are personally connected to the characters. The subject matter in this story was rather unique and interesting: the Spanish Flu ravages America, and as this pandemic tears a path through their hometown, we see how one family is torn apart from the devastation and loss.
The Almost Sisters
by Joshilyn Jackson
Wanted more (5/22/2017)
I love this author and I really, really wanted to love this book...but I didn't. I loved the southern background, with discussions on southern food, manners and traditions, but I could not for the life of me connect with these characters. I did enjoy the Batman scenario (funny and inventive) - but this book moved along slowly for me. I will continue to read and love this author, though....I'm a big fan!
