Generally speaking, I love the Gamache series. Sadly, this one seems a bit off course from the series. Rather than suspenseful, its whimsical and plain silly. While Beauvoir was always vain, Penny has turned the poor guy into a joke of a man and Gamache into a wet noodle. Following a supernatural storyline just doesn’t seem to fit these characters.

Fortunately I read books out of order and know they get better again.
