Fruiting Bodies: Stories
by Kathryn Harlan
Adult Content, Not for All (7/19/2022)
As I began reading the first story, I was quickly drawn into the narrative and was enjoying a “good read” when it abruptly ended. I felt like I had been pitched a great idea for a story, and was disappointed to learn the pitch was the whole thing. Reading my way through the book, I found the stories varied in genre, the ability to hold my interest, and quality. There are moments, paragraphs, glimpses, that encouraged me to keep reading. The title story felt the most original and complete to me. The last story had heart and like the first, hurried to end. Adult content.
Good Husbands: A Novel
by Cate Ray
Good Husbands (3/27/2022)
The first six words in this book are, "It starts out as a curiosity-", and within a few pages my own curiosity became thoroughly piqued. The story began to fly off of the pages and I felt that pleasure that readers feel when we find ourselves reading a talented author.

Three very different women, strangers to each other receive identical letters informing them about their husbands participation in a gang rape, many years ago. The story of how they respond is told in a masterful way that will make this book very easy to pick up, and difficult to put down.
