One Death at a Time
by Abbi Waxman
Fun Read (12/19/2024)
Fun read that was also a page-turner because of the mystery. The characters were likable and pulled you in. I especially enjoyed the relationship between Mason and Julia. I also liked how they stayed true to the need to continuously need to go to AA meetings. That wasn't just something they threw around when it was convenient.
Becoming Madam Secretary
by Stephanie Dray
Great story (11/14/2023)
What a powerful story about a person I had never heard of but who was very important to US history. I am in awe of women who persevered through so much opposition when there were no role models for them. This book was very well written and I really enjoyed the author's note at the end.
All You Have to Do Is Call
by Kerri Maher
Very Timely and provocative (6/27/2023)
I've read several books about the Jane organization. This book was inspiring and I like the way the characters were developed and grew throughout the book. The impact of the lack of resources for people of color and other marginalized people before Roe is overwhelming. Although we still have a very long way to go and are unfortunately backtracking, we have come a long way. The description of women's roles during that time period is spot on. It's important information for all of us and a well-written book.
The Critic's Daughter: A Memoir
by Priscilla Gilman
Surprising (2/21/2023)
I knew nothing about Richard Gilman and frankly didn't care much about him once I knew who he was. However, this powerfully written memoir by his daughter made me care about him and his relationship with his daughter. It is clear that she was very devoted to him and that his character helped to shape her. Her writing was wonderful and drew me in. Her insightfulness about herself and her father was compelling. Wonderful read.
On a Night of a Thousand Stars
by Andrea Yaryura Clark
Great Historical Fiction (3/31/2022)
I love reading about historical events that I don't know anything about. This was a well-written interesting account.
