Panic
by Sharon M. Draper
Panic (10/21/2023)
"Panic" by Sharon M. Draper is a gripping and emotional novel that takes readers on a journey through the highs and lows of teenage life. The story follows Diamond, a high school student who dreams of escaping her impoverished neighbourhood and making a better life for herself and her family. However, when Diamond witnesses a shooting in her community, fear and panic set in, and she begins to question everything she thought she knew about her world.

Draper's masterful storytelling and vivid characterizations bring Diamond's struggle to life as she grapples with the trauma of witnessing a violent crime while trying to maintain her relationships with her friends and family. The author's use of multiple narrators provides a nuanced and complex perspective on the impact of violence and poverty on young people, and her unflinching portrayal of Diamond's journey is both heart-wrenching and inspiring.

Overall, "Panic" is a powerful and thought-provoking novel that sheds light on important issues facing many young people today. Draper's writing is both honest and compassionate, and she handles difficult subject matter with sensitivity and grace. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a compelling and meaningful read.
Out of My Mind
by Sharon M. Draper
Yes or No? (10/21/2023)
Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper is a heart-wrenching and inspiring story that will leave readers feeling deeply moved. The novel is narrated by 11-year-old Melody, who has cerebral palsy and is unable to communicate with others in the way she wants to. Despite this, Melody is a bright and intelligent girl who longs to be understood and accepted for who she is.

The author does an excellent job of bringing Melody's character to life and giving readers a glimpse into the struggles and challenges that people with disabilities face on a daily basis. Melody's perseverance and determination are truly admirable, and readers will find themselves rooting for her throughout the story.

One of the things that I appreciated about this book was how it tackled important themes such as empathy, inclusion, and the power of communication. Draper's writing is both honest and poignant, and she doesn't shy away from difficult topics. This book is an important reminder that every person, regardless of their abilities, has something valuable to contribute to the world.

Overall, I would highly recommend Out of My Mind to anyone looking for a thought-provoking and emotionally engaging read. It's a powerful story that will stay with you long after you've turned the last page.
