The Stilt House has a lot of characters, and it is a chore to keep up with all. It has a little suspense and a lot of mystery. It draws you into the difficulties these characters face with just trying to live their lives simply. I felt empathy, as well as, dismay at what they had to do just to exist. I found myself cheering at their rare successes.
