Graveyard Shift: A Novella
by M. L. Rio
A fast and interesting read (11/20/2024)
Grave Yard Shift by M.L. Rio was a fast read.
I thought it would be a scary read, as in horror. I don't consider it truly horror.
It was a good read though. In its own way it was a creepy read.
If you liked Frankenstein you will like this story.
The characters were entertaining and I just kept reading to find out what was going on in the graveyard. It was a surprise.
I would read more from this author.
Happy Land
by Dolen Perkins-Valdez
Emotional read (11/9/2024)
Happy Land by Ellen Perkins scales is an emotional and wonderful read. It is well written with depth to the characters.

It is a dual timeline story which I love. It goes from the past, how Happy Land came to be and the present.

Mama Rita, the matriarch, is a complex character. Strong ,stubborn and family is important to her.

Her granddaughter, Veronica, who goes by Nikki, comes to visit her grandmother , whom she has not seen in awhile, to try to find out why her mother and her grandmother had a falling out.

The story is a good pick for book clubs. It delves into slavery and the complexities of how slaves were still treated when they were first freed.
Beast of the North Woods: A Monster Hunter Mystery
by Annelise Ryan
A thrilling read (10/29/2024)
I loved Beast of the North Woods by Anne lose Ryan.
The writing was very good. She was very descriptive in explaining the hodag..

The prologue was a great start to this story.A monster called a hodag. A creepy creature.

By the end of the second chapter ,there would be 2 mysteries. The first one was for Morgan to help her friends it's and Site's steps brother in-laws Roger and Roger's son,Andy.
Andy was arrested for the murder of an enemy. Andy denied it. Roger and Rita asked Morgan to help look into Andy's story.. Unfortunately for Andy, things don't look good for him, because he had history with the victim.

The second mystery will be who is sending Morgan messages letting her know she is being watched. There is a story there. Morgan had a suspicion as to whom it may be.

This story is a fast and interesting read.
The Bog Wife
by Kay Chronister
A creepy good read (8/7/2024)
I really enjoyed this book. The plot of the book was interesting . The writing was smooth and well done. I will definitely read more from this author. I liked that the chapters were titled, with the name of the characters alternating. I like getting their POV.
The story is gothic , magical realism . It reminds me of The Inheritance of Orchidea Divina .I would recommend this for anyone who enjoys magical realism, gothic stories, family saga, YA
The Pecan Children

Table for Two: Fictions
by Amor Towles
Excellent stories (4/12/2024)
Table for Two is a book of short stories. The last story is a novella. I really enjoyed them. The characters in the stories are relatable and they are entertaining. The stories are entertaining but they make you think too. I did not want the stories to end. As usual, Amor Towels had done an excellent job!!
