What a great book! Still Waters will hold you in rapt suspense till the very last page. Have never read anything by Tami Hoag until now. But, believe me, I will read anything she has and will write.

I have been "large" all of my life, so I thought, "Geez, another stupid diet book; it won't work.", but to my surprise, I am doing very well indeed and it isn't difficult to stick to, because I don't have to fix a "diet" meal for me an "Normal" things for the rest of my family. Even though my kids and my husband are all normal sizes, I knew I was going to have a long way to go. I went to my Doctor first, discussed the entire thing with him and went home to get started. That was in late Oct. 1998 and as of July 1999 I have lost 86 pounds! I'm sticking with it, because I don't have to really "think" about it. I use whole wheat products mostly anyway, and I love sweet potatoes. There are lots of things to choose from. I haven't fried anything in 9 months and haven't used sugar in my coffee since then either. I found Nutrasweet is in a lot of things, and when I have a sweet tooth, I can get some Jello pudding sweetened with Nutrasweet or anything else I can find that way!!! I recommend this way of life to anyone who has more than just 10 or 15 pounds to lose. People who only have that much to lose give people like me a giant pain because they make it very hard for us to stick with a good program. This is that program and it's one you can stay with for life!! More Later...Gail

I've read the book three times to make sure I didn't overlook anything. I never had any luck in dieting, but Sugar Busters! is Not a Diet. I never feel like I'm dieting. We don't even think about calories and portion sizes. We just use common sense in deciding how much to eat, most specifically No Second Helpings. We just substitute the low sugar foods for the the Bad Foods and I've loss 21 lbs. in three months. My wife, Maryanne, has lost 10 lbs. With high blood pressure to consider, Sugar Busters! is probably a lifesaver. Even my doctor went out and bought the book after he saw my weight loss.

It seems to be a reasonable clearly explained diet since it does include vegetables and fruits and whole grained wheat products. I was impressed by the scientific explanations on the effects of insulin on storing fat in the body. What I would have liked is a more detailed diet program. For example, on various days, steak, veal, and pork chops as well as chicken and turkey breast are listed, but no mention is made as to the quantities are deemed appropriate and how much is too much. One chop, for example may weigh more than two, and steak may vary as to weight in ounces as well. I would also like to see a more comprehensive list of allowable foods along with advisable quantities in each case.

I read this book last summer. I found it easy for the lay person to understand. It makes sense, too, after all the other diet books I have read. The menus and recipes are very helpful, also.
I started the diet on June 3, 1998 at a size 18+. I now am a size 12-14 and have lost over 40 lbs. I have not had to starve myself; I've not followed it perfectly. I can tell I feel much better when I DO follow it more strictly though.

I was given this book by a friend last evening. I brought the book to work with me today, and am very excited about it. I am a nurse, and fitness instructor. I like the way it explains how proteins make metabolism happen, and carbos increase insulin output, which stores more fat. It all makes sense. I will try this one, and see what happens. What have we got to loose???? :)

This is a great book. I read it in one day. I can't believe how much sugar I didn't know I was having. My gosh, I can actually have a salad with normal salad dressing on it. Here I thought I was doing well by policing myself with fats and I was just loading up on sugar. I've only been following this for about four days, but I already see a difference even without exercising. I can eat more and have a steak and even wine. I feel like I discovered a gold mine because I'd pay big bucks to be thin.

What a great way to lose weight! I had heard about this diet through our New Orleans office and was wondering what the "Sugar Busters" meals at New Orleans restaurants meant. After conversing with co-workers, I had a general idea about what all the stir was about.
Not until I read the book did I see exactly what my colleagues meant. It makes total sense now that I think about the amount of sugar or high sugar producing foods I was consuming.
Being a full-time working mom, I decided to follow Sugar Busters! way of eating the best I could. By just following the diet halfway, I went from a tight size 14 to a loose size 10. I recently cheated for a week on Fritos (a corn product high in sugars) and gained at least 5 lbs. and a dress size. This does work and I only wish I had more time to exercise, but I still lose and have more energy.

A friend of mine recently lent this book to me & I couldn't put it down once I'd started. It was fantastic ! I remembered when I was at school I had read a lot if Judy Blume's books & I thought they were great then. I was really blown away by this one. This book got my emotions going, from laughter to tears. Read it !

I just finished reading Summer Sisters this evening. It came highly recommended by several people. I found very little to like in this book and don't understand why others rave over it. It reads like a trashy novel. The sexual escapades of two teenagers does not make a good read. I doubt there were even 25 pages in the entire book that did not discuss sex or private body parts. I would expect something better from Judy Blume. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

I Read about "Summer Sisters" in a magazine. A friend lent it to me when I questioned whether she had read\heard of it. I honestly could not stop reading. It was like an addiction. It evokes so many emotions and memories from the reader. I became instantly sucked into the lives of the two Summer Sisters. It was truly of the best books I have ever read. I bought a copy for myself and some for friends. Judy Blume is my hero and I hope that one day I will have the incredible writing talent that she has. So powerful and interesting. Judy Blume has done it again.

I was so happy when I heard Judy Blume wrote a novel for adults. As soon as I read the first two pages, I knew I wouldn't be able to put it down. I finished this book in less than two days. You become the characters in the book. It's definitely a keeper!

I loved Stargirl! I recommended it to all my friends, and they all loved it to! I felt as if the author wasn't just telling you a story, but some tips on life and on the binding chains of popularity. I love this book. every one should read it!

"I couldn't put it down. Spinning Straw made me laugh, wince, and cry. It is more than a story of autistic boy. It shows a family that happens to have a child with a serious handicap. It shows their ups and downs, the emotional roller coaster of raising a handicapped child. As a mother of an autistic child, I could feel for what this family went through. However, you don't have to have a handicapped child to be moved by this book. Any parent or anyone who knows children will be touched by this book. Spinning Straw pulls at the heart strings."
Southern Cross

Comedic satire? I usually don't have to be told when something's funny. Southern Cross is a real turkey; bizarre, bordering on the surreal. Take a tip from me... If you like Patricia Cornwell's novels, don't read Southern Cross... you may never pick up another one.

I was glad that this book was a Xmas gift and that I didn't spend the money on it. Almost as though Cornwell is trying to branch out and appeal to a whole new readership - I think it could be someone else sharing her name - not a good book.

I have read all of Particia Cornwell's books. I thought Southern Cross was very different from her usual writings, but I loved it none the less The new characters she introduces are sarcastic at times, but it breaks up some of the grusome details she offers about this murder. It's a great read!!
