This book was so fasinating. I'm usually not much of a reader but my boss suggested this book to me, and it was so extravigant that I didn't want to put it down. I wanted to see what was going to happen to the killer, and how the family would deal with the tragic loss of a daughter, sister, friend, and grand daughter.I nearly died a couple of times once from a car accident, and the other from trying to get my belly button pierced. This book really made me think about what heaven is like, how my family would cope, and hope that heaven really is the way Ms. Sebold percieves it in her book The Lovely Bones.I think it was really wonderful and I recommend it to anyone looking for an excellent book to read.I was also sympathetic for Susie Salmon, and was glad that everyoneshe knew was able to be so strong and brave through it all. However I also felt bad for Ray because he lost a friend and someone he liked.

A book you will not forget

Very touching, so real.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, but must echo a lot of comments that the ending left something to be desired – and no so much the ending as much as one single chapter (the only one that, in my mind, was unbelievable). I could not put this book down and I have never read anything like this. It was very, very sad and very poignant; I very seldom literally cry while reading a book and I did with this one. I loved everything about the book – the concept of “your” heaven and the ability of those that die to see those left on earth, especially. You should read this book.

Definetly the best of this summer's books.

What a great book

When I first heard of this book from a television review I knew I had to read it. I ordered it before it was released! If I could only put down on paper the way Alice Sebold does - what a fantasy. It has been so many years since I have read a book that I could not put down. Perhaps as far back as the first time I read To Kill a Mockingbird. Do not hesitate to read this one. Shocking, sad, funny all emotions are covered in this wonderful book. Please, please, please write more Ms. Sebold.

I enjoyed this book and found it compelling reading by virtue of the author's finesse. The emotions here are quieter, more subdued, yet familiar and poignant. The book doesn't have the usual dramatic hook, nor does it build to a swelling crescendo either in action or emotion. Still, the reader is lifted along with gentle hands in this ultimate voyeurism -- watching the living through the eyes of the deceased, with all the wonderment and revelation it contains.
