While as a ten year old I found this book an incredibly long and dragging read that I read for the feeling of pride rather than enjoyment, as a twelve year old, I found this book to be a delightful and intruiging read. Still long and dragging, but intruiging. That's not to say that there weren't moments that I disliked, but that much rings true in any book. As an incredibly unemotional person, it would have been nice for this book to make me feel some more emotion. This much lacked for me because of how much the book dragged on. It was like Hearn had tried to pull Tolkien off but in doing so had taken out of the book's overall charm. I'm not, by any means, saying that the book is a rip-off of the Lord of the Rings. I'm saying that Hearn and Tolkien had similar writing styles and Hearn's sort of got a bit lost.

I still recommend this book, particularly as a summer read, and I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

I believe that a book should be an emotional rollercoaster, an engrossing plot and compatable characters. Across The Nightingale Floor has all three. So, you'll think, you stupid person, why aren't you giving it a 5. Well, if it didn't have a rape scene and the fact that I have a recurring dream that I'm getting a needle poked in my eye then i would be giving it a 5. But, I'll admit, though, this is a great read and after reading it three times I cannot wait for Book 2; which I hope will be just as absorbing as the spectacular first book. Oh yeah, if you want your sleep, don't pick up this book cos you won't sleep for a while.8:P

Across the nightingale floor is one of those books that will steal hours of your sleep. I only have time to read at night, but the plot is so well paced, that it will be hard to close the book and go to sleep. The events unfold in a rythym that just doesen't slows down. It's written in a very easy english. To all that love feudal japan i recommend this book. Enjoy, pure adventure...

Don't get me wrong, this is a great book and well worth the time to read, however two complaints, firstly when the hell are the next two due out!!!!!!!!! and secondaly did anyone else feel it was a little rushed, hopefully the author will take his time in the next books and explain the amazing changes takeo went through, for example, his gaining of the hearing skill was so rushed, ' he could hear everything, he had to train his ears... this let down what looked to be a promising book, but please read it, and please don;t rush the next two books

Disappointed.
When my teacher told me about this book, I thought it was going to be a good book.... boy was I disappointed! This book has many flaws, some points aren't really clear, others he wouldn't stop pointing out! The timing of the story is off and I was extremely disappointed by how he changed such an interesting plot and turned it into a boring novel...

I suppose what I read of this book was ok. I mean I read like the 1st few chapters then BOOM, I just could not be bothered to read it anymore! I think that this sudden dislike had something to do with the fact that reading this book was HOMEWORK.

Luv Bubblegumgirl x

too much violence and sadism. flat and disgusting. however. there are some glimpse in nature, traditions. could be more. No wonder the author did not sign. i hope it is simply tribute to overall cheap standards. Jim

This book was okay. I never really looked forward to picking it up, but once I got going it was fine. Other people in my bookclub loved it......just a matter of opinion. If you like fantasy type novels, then you will probably enjoy.
