This was a great read.
Nancy Farmer, an excellent writer, manages to weave present day context (clones, what a great topic) into a futuristic world. This would be a great book group book (for adults as well as young people). Much food for thought.

I loved this book. I read it in a week because I was so addicted to it. I loved how the parts were put according to his age. I know it sounds dumb but it was kinda cool to see how everything changed as the years went by, and how Matt slowly learned about who he was and what that meant. I put this as a 4 because though the main meat of the book was great, the ending was sloppy. It felt rushed and the whole thing after the salt mines just didn't seem necessary or done right. The ending was also rushed, and had a bit of (just my opinion) unneeded events happen. This isn't the first book I've read that had a great storyline, but a car crashing into a wall ending. I just wish that this author would of spent more time on the ending. Still a great read, and worth it even with the lame ending.

I am amazed that so many feel that this is appropriate literature for 10-12 year olds. This novel is very dark and offers little by way of the positive for young readers. The content describes several forms of government and contains some very intense moralistic issues that should be considered with ages more appropriate for 13. Very interesting plot and wonderful for more mature audiences who will appreciate the parallels and life lessons.

I really like this book in a way. I don't believe that cloning is the way to go though. I don't believe that God wanted us to think about cloning in the future. He is the one that put us on this earth and the life that we live is what he chooses so I don't think that we should be in control of that. Other than that it is a really good book with a interesting point to it.

This book was great! I have never read a book about clones because i am not really into the whole Sci-fi thing but this was nothing like what i expected. This is a book you wont want to put down and it keeps you wondering what will happen next. You need to read this book!

This was a great, intellectual book, but I felt at times it was a little drawn out, or at the end, too rushed- still amazing!

Even though the ending was pushed, it is a great book full of mystery, adventure and twists that bring the consequences of genetic engineering to life. Age group should be around 11-16.

The House of the Scorpion was a complex, and fascinating book with riveting plot twists that keep you constantly on your toes. This is a sci-fi book that opens your eyes to the actual definition of corruption, prejudice, and the reality of human nature. It deserved 4 stars for all of the above, but the ending was sort of cut off and some elements were confusing, and unrealistic (even for a sci-fi).
