I enjoyed this book for the simple fact that I love reading about people and how they try to overcome hardships in their life. The author was great on catching all the emotional elements of the story and how McCandles touched the lives of so many people. The book would have been better if the author was more focused on the story

Krakauer does an excellent job of documenting the life and death of a literary wannabe. Chris should have stopped trying to be Thoreau long before he got to Alaska. As a resident of Alaska, I know what he did was foolhardy. We take more supplies than he did when we go on a two day backpacking trip. There are too many ways to die here; it's not a place for idealism. Alaska is a harsh mistress. Krakauer did an excellent job of describing the life of one of many fools who wander up here and find themselves grossly overmatched. This book left me feeling sorry for his family, but without much sympathy for Chris.

I have read the book Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. The book nis about a brave, yet foolish, recent college grad. He travels through north america meeting new people and living off the land. Nature which he had come to love later gets the best of him as he later dies in the back countries of Alaska.
The book was writin well, and pretty easy to read. He didn't use uncommon termanolgy and he explained situation well enough to understand.
I would probably recommend this book to others. I dont personally like to read but this book seemed to keep me interested and eagerly turning the next page.

I have mixed emotions about Krakauer's Into the Wild. It's a book about a young man, Chris McCandless, who gets rid of all of his worldly possessions, leaves his parents and hitch-hikes around the country, leaving an impression on every person's heart he comes across. He then ventures into Alaska where he dies.
I really enjoyed the story itself. I found it intriguing how Chris could just leave everything and be on his own. I didn't like how it was written. I love to read and am a strong reader, but in some chapters, Krakauer completely lost me and I had to re-read those chapters 2 or 3 times before I understood what was going on.
I would recommend this book to people that like to read about adventure. It's a fascinating story. To those who don't like to feel "lost" in a book, this is not the story for you.

its was a little slow a boring

Very Confusing Layout of Book, and not enough adventure.

I had to read this book for a summer assignment for school and I thought it was horrible. I can't understand McCandless' motives for wanting to wander off into the wilderness all alone with no knowledge on how to survive. He seems very unintelligent to me. He had been book smart in school and very passionate about different causes so why did he feel the need to escape the real world? I also have a problem with the way the book was written. The author skips from one topic to the next. One chapter, he's died. The next, he's working at a Burger joint. After that, we tour his childhood. Then, he's dying. There is no chronological order and the flow of the story is choppy and hard to follow. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. Don't suffer like I had to!!!

This book was very confusing,and hard to follow. I had to read it for my english class and no one in our class passed the test. I found this book to be good in a few parts but overall it was boring! I think I would rather read a dictionary to be honest. I enjoyed the story line, but you jumped around to much and you added to much about other people. Overall I would not suggest this book to anyone! Sorry Krauker this book was weak!
