I read this book years ago and it haunts me still today. It has the ability to instill in everyone how important it is to follow your dream. Christopher followed his dream, but; I believe he was not in any way, prepared for EVERY obstacle that could happen along his journey.
I believe he was a true adventurer with a huge heart.
The book will absolutely cause you to reflect. While on the journey with Christopher though, it can also break your heart!

Apparently some of you haven't caught on to this being a documentary. How do you "liven up" the real story???? If you ask me, the so-called cliffhanger of this book is what actually kills the poor guy. Were it not for the ADD this country is plauged with, that may have been more obvious. Besides, the book is not meant to entertain you like Terminator 2. It was tactfully designed to shine a light on a type of human existance and one man's unwavering dedication to his dreams. It is hard to understand these days with all of the rat-race related stresses, but the book helps. I found it to be a wonderful read. It was a bit pulp-fiction-style in it's delivery, but I found it clear and most of all thorough. Finally, to people who think he was a moron, you have obviously not read the book. The man was book learned and an average if not better socialite. Let us see how all of YOU do trying to make it for 112 days without contact or resupply. Take what you will and what you can carry, and I GUARANTEE you'll still have a hard time. This moron did it though.....
I think this is a very good book by Jon Krakauer. McCandles was the type of person that wasnt into family and he liked to be alone. Like some of the people that he is comparing to him, about the guy that lived in cordova, alaska. I have been to cordova and hippie cove.... All of the hippies still live there and a lot of fish still go there...cordova is a very nice place. And i liked how chris didnt except much from anyone and went his own way on the time that he wanted.

A lot of people may not like this story, but if it catches you right; the book may change your life...
