THE LOST BOY
Dave Pelzer is a boy who was abused as a child. He is telling about his experiences as he was moved through the foster care system. At first he lived at a foster care which he thought was a home he never had. I think that he is a brave man, because he had gone through a lot.
In this book Dave goes to court against his mother. When he wins the case he is happy, but yet sad at the same time. He feels that he now gets to start his life all over. He doesn’t get abused, which is a good thing, but gets afraid when his foster mother yells at him for getting into trouble. She raises her voice, and Dave is so use to getting hit he ducks. His foster mother starts to now understand what Dave lived through.
Dave went through a lot of foster homes. He found out the hard way that you can’t get use to a place, because when you do you will probably be moving soon. One of his foster homes his foster parents fought a lot. When his real parents fought it ended up about him. He feels that it is his fault that they are fighting.
In a different foster home, Dave comes home from school and finds out that his foster dad is being accused for rape. The next day he leaves that home. The reason his foster dad is being accused for rape is one of the foster children leave the home pregnant. The foster dad clams to know nothing about it though.
In the end of the book Dave learns that around the same time as he went into foster care his dad had been asked to resign early. Both his dad and his mom are both alcoholics. Dave drives down to find out what happened to his dad. He talks to his father’s partner in firefighting. He says that his dad has been drinking hard.
When he finds his dad they go for a walk. On the walk they talk about what went wrong. Dave hopes that he will buy a house later so that his dad can move in with him. That never happens in this book though. The very end of the book says that Dave joined the air-force on his 18th birthday.

After having read A Child Called It, I was absolutely floored. I can't imagine having that much hatred for your own child! I went into my children's rooms that night and just watched them sleep peacefully, just to be thankful for the life I have with them. I am now reading The Lost Boy for my psychology class. I commend David for telling his story and inspiring other child abuse survivors to believe in themselves. I can't say enough how this book gives you insights into the lives that you knew existed yet were able to shut out. This novel forces you to realize how horrible a life for a child can be, but for once it's nice to see the determination that some of these young and fragile children are somehow able to hold onto. Truly a touching book! :)

A child called it was a very good book and very touching. It makes you think and realize there really are children in the world tortured like that. You could feel his pain and how he longed to be loved. It was a very good book; i can't wait to read the next two.
