A GREAT MEMOIR
What a wonderful memoir. I felt that I was having a conversation with the author and there were parts that were very funny and I could relate to the situation. The author's relationship with his father was very different and powerful. There were parts that were very emotional and I did shed some tears. If you are an animal lover you will love this book. Maybe you will learn something from the people and the animals in the book.

A book about love
This book arrived the day after my darling 12-year-old cat died. Fran and I adored each other and the prospect of reading a book about pets made me a little nervous, but it quickly became apparent that this lovely book is about much more than a veterinarian's experiences with his pets. It’s about relationships between species and between generations, and how sometimes we need to experience something in order to truly appreciate what others have gone through.

Great Read!
I loved it! It's a memoir, it's about animals, and it was a delight to read. The book is witty, insightful and heartwarming. It is full of incidents from the Dr.'s life as well as incidents from various animals lives.....some producing tears and many producing laughter. I couldn't put it down!

Animal Tales
What a delightful book. Perhaps it is because the author is of my age and many things he talks about are easily understood and remembered. If you love animals you will love this book. It is full of stories about animals and at the same time you learn a great deal about the author's life. It doesn't have quite the scope of the James Herriot books but it definitely fits close to it. It is a book for young and old, for those who perhaps once wanted to be vets or even for those who are vets today. Keep a box of tissues close by because you are going to feel the tears at times but just sit back and enjoy.

Ever By My Side
You might think that a book about a veterinarian would have a limited audience. That's not the case with "Ever By My Side" It not only deals with how one man is affected by the animals in his life but how it lead him to choose his career. I t also explores his relationship with his father who had a different life plan for Dr. Nick. It shares the impact of animals on Nick's children.
The writer's style is conversational and makes you want to listen to all he has to say. Some of his stories are funny and remind you of the animals in your own life. I couldn't put this book down, I loved it.

A celebration of pets
The author of this heartwarming memoir had me hooked by page 8. He shares stories of how animals have had a profound impact in his life and on his human relationships - with his father, as a father himself and husband, and as a veterinarian. It made me laugh and cry with the memories of my own loved pets. I highly recommend for animal lovers, young and old and for book groups where it would raise some interesting discussions.

Ever By My Side
I'll adored this book. From it's opening paragraphs, I was hooked. Nicholas Trout is a wonderful storyteller and writes in an engaging and captivating way. His characters, both human and animal, come vividly alive on the pages of this enchanting book. The portrait of his parents, especially his father, is particularly powerful. I laughed and I cried in almost equal measure throughout the course of this emotionally charged and exceptionally satisfying book. I highly recommend this book. A delightful read with many lessons to be learned from both the humans and pets in this book.

For the Love of Animals and Family
I was so looking forward to another book written by Dr. Nick Trout - I devoured his first book "Tell Me Where it Hurts". and looked forward to his next books like I did when I was younger waiting for the next James Herriot book to be published-I laughed when I realized that Dr. Trout was extremely familiar with the Herriot books and mentioned them often in "Ever By My SIde!" Once I began this book I couldn't put it down. A wonderful storyteller, Dr. Trout invites us into his life, making me laugh out loud as well as cry. A moving memoir, although I would like to read more about Dr. Trout's vet experiences.
