the topics and themes in this book would be terribly difficult to write about in a way that is fun to read but Kingsolver did it wonderfully

this book was wonderful. it was little hard to get into, but once you understand what is going on it is hard to put it down. i would definitely recommend this to anyone.

This book is moving, sympathetic, funny, instructive, entertaining and full of a warm humanity.

Being a Southern Baptist Preacher's daughter I could easily relate to all of the girls and what they went through. Although I have never been to the Congo I have had to do plenty of things I absolutly did not want to do because of my dad being a pastor. This book was written just for me to be able to escape and be with fellow PK's!!

Note from BookBrowse - the reviewer didn't explain what PK stood for but I assume it stands for preacher's kids.

A book that steals you from your regular day-to-day work and brings you straight to the African Jungle!

Impossible to put down. This is not the typical type of book I enjoy reading but did so on the recommendation from my mother-in-law. It has drawn me in as if I am a member of the Price family and at times, it's easy to get caught up in their day to day lives as if you are living it too. It's difficult to fathom a man taking his family half way across the world to live in such a different world. I can't say I empathize with Nathan but I certainly can with Orleanna, Rachel, Leah, Adah and Ruth May.

a joy to read
