I loved this book. This is definitly the best book I have ever read. A friend was reading it and I asked how it was and they said it was pretty good. So as soon as she checked in into the library I checked it out. I couldnt put it down and I plan on reading it again.

I just finished this book, and I loved it. Its one of thoughs books that I will always think about from time to time. There was a couple slow parts, but most of it was very good. I have a one year old, and reading sometimes is hard to do, but with this book, it just kept me locked in it. Julie is such a strong girl, and and her life has taught me alot. Robert Morgan made you feel like the characters are real living people, and the book flows together wonderfuly.
So if you are a women, and your looking for a strong women to encourage you, Julie is the women you need. Read Gap Creek.

I really liked this book. Julie and Hank were compelling. Julie was 'raw', honest and deliberate. I felt the author did a good job of capturing the emotional void and equalizing it to the finacial void. He brought the characters to the bottom of the river and let them rise enough to tread water at the suface.

Yes,I gave it a three,no I changed my mind to 4,it wasn't prize pultizer material yes but it was a good! book! A kind of 'Little House on the Parie'only with rough edges on it. I enjoyed reading about how things in life was done back then,life was simplier back then in some ways but life was hard,we need books like this to remind us. Thank you mister Morgan! Now,to my critque of the characters,Hank and Julie...First of all,I think Hank married Julie because she was the first good woman to come along to get him away from his ma and to 'prove' his manhood! Oh,yes,he may have 'loved' Julie but I think he fell in true love with her as time went on. I did not care for his egoticatical "Don't tell me what to do' but that is typical for that time period and I agree with another reader,the writer could have ended it a whole lot better! It's like he got a chopping ax and cut the end off! Give us a break and come up with Part 2! Well,that's all I have to say.

This book was "OK", but I am not sure what all the fuss is about. By the time I got to the last 50 pages I was angry with the book. Its an Oprah Book Club selection and a NY Times bestseller, but I am missing what all the hype is about?!?

It was an okay book. It would probaly be good for adults then yonger kids. But me being 16 it want as good as my Aunt (40) made it outto be. So i would recomind it to people 30 and over. It was a good book.

Morgan tells a decent but contrived story - All that happens is so predictable as soon as the novel gets going. My biggest complaint is that the book is written in Julies' voice. Morgan consistently uses poor grammar but, as important narrative is created he falls off. If Julie is really telling the story she uses vocabulary beyond her education and culture. I would have liked to see some more information of her growing up and formative years. I felt obliged to stick to the end, but found my self skimming over several pages at at time. Too many holes.

This book was over-rated by its jacket reviews. It was a disappointing
story with little reward. I don't need much as far as story line as I truly enjoy Willa Cather's books but this book just didn't make it - the
characters were flat and it's a book that probably won't have a long life
as it actually had little to say.Text
