It was boring at first, but it got interesting as i turned the pages!: )

What a Wonderful story. I really could not put this book down. I too was a little confused by the phone call bit at the end. After reading other reviews, I have it all pieced together now. This book makes you think about life and how you just can not take things for granted, as you never know when your whole world will be turned upside down. I strongly recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a great read.

It was an exciting book until the end. The end appeared to go off on a different tangent entirely as if Shreve hadn't really decided how to end it or an editor suggested this ending to attract interest through an IRA link which really had nothing to do with the very good plot to that point. Anyway it could have been a classic without the weak and obtuse ending.

The Pilot's Wife
It was ok. I find Anita Shreve's works to be too proficient in description without ever coming to fruition of an explanation. I find it frustratating. She hovers too much on the outer rims without coming to a culmination that the reader can grab on to.The Pilot's Wife was a good story but too wordy and too much was left unexplained.

i thought it was a little to grown up
The book had potential to be really interesting and quite explosive! Great concepts of love, betrayal, grief, intrigue and possible tension. these were never fully explored except for grief. I found the book too slow to begin with and not enough detail in the end.

As i began reading the pilot's wife, i couldnt help being slightly dispapointed once i reached to back cover. I was told by many people that the book was very intriging. But it seemed to drag on. The book would have been rather instrinsting if there were a twist to the second wife.

I am currently studying Anita Shreve for my dissertation in Advanced Higher English and have read most of her work. I fell in love with Fortune's Rocks and Sea Glass. However, The Pilot's Wife didn't quite live up to the reputation she has made of herself. I agree that her storytelling skills are fabulous, but I don't think it is her best. I do recommend everyone to read Fortune's Rocks, Sea Glass or The Last Time They Met! These are examples of true literary genius!
