I THOUGHT THAT STARGIRL WAS A STUPID AND BORING BORING BOOK! IIT WAS WAY TOOOOO EASY TO UNDERSTAND. I AM NOT INTO THESE KIND OF BOOKS AND I JUST HATED THIS BOOK. IT SEEMED AS IF THE BOOK WOULD NEVER END. ONE OF THE WORST BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ.

Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli is an awsome book. It is about a girl how was home schooled most of her life on till she goes to Mica high. she doesn't really fit in. They all treat her funny just because she is different from them. Every day after lunch she sings happy birthday to some one. Another main charter in the book is a boy named Leo. He finds out on day at lunch that Stargil likes him. They begin to go out and the whole sdhool notices and begins to shun them. Well I'm not going to give away the rest of the story. You will have to read it yourself.

Stargirl is the boring tale of Leo Borlock and a weird girl named Stargirl. The story is not mysterious, just confusing. Though it seems like there's a new event every day, nothing new happens whether it be a contest or party, doesn't matter. Everywhere they go, the same thing: Stargirl pulling the same strange antics and Leo debating with himself whether or not to like Stargirl and get "shunned" by classmates or hate her. That’s the whole story and it’s wrapped up with a poor ending too. Unless you enjoy hearing about a ukulele-playing girl with a pet rat and a boy who thinks about the same thing all day in a book, then this book should definitely be added to the reject list. Stargirl seemed to be full of contradictions. I tried, but she never really came off the pages. I expected someone as different as her is to be more straightforward, but she came off vague and a bit inconsistent. None of the dialogue was very believable, and the writing structure was oddly built. “I told her I wanted to be a TV director. She said she wanted to be a silver-lunch-truck driver.” (Spinelli 109). There is a fine line between writing about a weird girl and writing a book half-assed. The story was somehow set against the wrong background, and I can't really describe it more than that. Stargirl came out as cheesy. She wasn't ever portrayed as stupid, so I assumed she knew she was different and that other peers were calling her weird. I then assumed she didn't care. But then she changes everything because of what Leo tells her. The whole book just came off as very flat-but hey...Someone might like it.
Stargirl first came to school when she was a sophomore. She had been home schooled before that and no one knew what to think of her. She was very well liked until she started cheering the other teams and basketball games. But what really got everyone mad was when she comforted the star player on the opposing team. After this she was not popular anymore and her only friend was Leo Borlock, her boyfriend. Stargirl did not realize people were shunning her and went on with her regular life. Although I did not enjoy the book, the story teaches a good lesson on being yourself and not what others want you to be. It showed me that I should have self-confidence to do and wear what I want. Stargirl is definitely unique in her own way. I greatly respect her and hope everyone else will read this book and respect her as well. My favorite quote from the book was the one that really described her. " She was elusive. She was today. She was tomorrow. She was the faintest scent of a cactus flower, the flitting shadow of an elf owl. We did not know what to make of her. In our minds we tried to pin her to the corkboard like a butterfly, but the pin merely went through and away she flew."(Spinelli Back cover). Star girl was incredible; she wore peasant dresses and played a ukulele. She had a pet rat named Cinnamon that went everywhere with her. Stargirl truly did not care what others thought of her. Stargirl seemed to be in touch with something that everyone else is not in touch with.
Stargirl went against the normal in so many ways. There are a million symbols of her difference and individuality. But a deeper theme would be conformity. She gave in; let herself adapt to other people’s lives. Just because she was infatuated with one guy enough, maybe it was true love that drove her. But when her heart was crushed she went back to being herself, he didn't love her enough to support her. He was more concerned with just being one of the many instead of being original.
All in all I found Stargirl a to be an utterly boring book. It began and I was somewhat intrigued then it just dragged on. The characters in the book were completely flat, they went from loving her to hating her in a matter of days. I recommend this book to very young teens, and I emphasize the word young. The book gets a D in my judgment.

Stargirl was a good one but not one i would recommend someone to read. All it is about is this girl coming to a new school and she songs and plays happy birthday to people. This book is real boring. I think my teacher wasted her time reading it to us. The only good thing about it is that it teaches people how to respect people.

I gave this book a one because I am not a person whom likes life story books. I like action books that are intense. I also gave this book a one because it was to slow for me. If I could have edited the book then I would have given it a lot more action.
