Confusing
I've been reading Dean Koontz novels for decades. I am 55. I don't believe for ONE second that this book was written by Koontz alone. Perhaps the editor for this novel was a huge fan of a thesaurus. Perhaps Koontz decided to follow in King's footsteps, forcing the reader to skip 2 or 3 pages at a time whilst he rambles on about nothing important to the plot or character. Nonetheless, the beginning of this novel couldn't have been written by Koontz alone. Very disappointing.

This book was okay. I'm sure there are some people who will really like it. I, however was not among them. I found the book's weak points to be several:
  • The story telling is intentionally fragmented, to the point of being annoying. I feel that the book takes far to long to set up the situation, and by the time the end of the rising action, I was mostly disinterested
  • The author's own agenda regarding bioethics was glaringly obvious and annoying. Make sure to research the subject after reading the book
  • Koontz seems to have a one-dimensional lexicon in this books. Across many characters, a few odd words such as behemoth were overused. This was, to me, quite distracting.
On the other hand, this book is fairly engaging and a pretty quick read.
