Paris ooh la la
I was anxious to start this book but was a little disappointed. I had a hard time staying with it until the last quarter of the book. The story started out okay but it seemed to lose me from time to time with the main characters. The ending was not what I expected. I enjoyed A Paris Apartment very much but I'll See You in Paris did not live up to my expectations.

I'll See You in Paris
Part mystery, part history (of a sort) and part romance, the plot revolves around two women: one in 1973 and the other in 2001. In both time periods, the action occurs mainly in Oxfordshire, England (and only moves to Paris for the denouement of the story. Fitting, perhaps...).

The author shifts back and forth between the two time periods and particularly in the beginning, this technique is uneven and occasionally jarring. However, as the plot progresses, the tactic works a bit better. I never really connected with either of the two main characters, but the mystery/history subplots held my interest. An entertaining, but not taxing, read....

II'll See You in Paris
"I'll See You in Paris" started with a good premise of exploring the life of Gladys Spencer-Churchill. While her life does seem to be fascinating I never got drawn in to her character. Instead the novel really involved people around her - mainly a caretaker, and an author writing her biography.

The relationship between those two did not ring true to me and consequently their relationships with people around them also seemed stilted. The author rushed a familiarity between the two main characters, and didn't really develop the relationship of those two main characters in a believable manner.
I couldn't get beyond this, and so the book was only an okay read for me.

Disappointing
I read this author's book The Paris Apartment and enjoyed it. However, this book is more than disappointing. The characters are not well developed and are all over the map. The story line goes back and forth with weak transitions. There's no depth to this story and in some ways it's just silly. I would not recommend it.

Apologies...
I was excited to receive this book in the mail. The subject matter held infinite possibilities and I love when a real-life event sparks an author's imagination. However, after reading 100 pages, I finally gave it up. The characters held no excitement for me and I felt the prose was over-explanatory in the way it made connections between the novel, the historical character, and the present day character. I found the back and forth between the book, the present day character's interpretation of the book, and the historical figure messy and difficult to follow. I just couldn't make it to the end. My apologies... I'm sure another reader will love it.
