What do readers think of Crazy Blood by T. Jefferson Parker? Write your own review.

Mr. Parker normally writes mysteries but I believe he will find new readers as well with this book. I found it quite enjoyable to read. Characterization is very strong and despite a plotline that isn't all that original it is still refreshingly new. Readers will also learn a great deal about the sport of skiing and competition.

This book will appeal to many male readers but that isn't to say that females won't enjoy it as well. At its base it is the tale of two families and two brothers who hate each other.

Book clubs may want to ask what drove the writer to create this story. Then there may be a discussion of family and the complexity that it involves. Some may have questions about skiing and what makes a truly great skier and what drives them.

I don't think anyone will be sorry that they chose this book to read.

Former newspaper reporter, T. Johnson Parker, leaves L.A., site of most of his well-received crime novels, and moves his latest novel to Mammoth Lakes in California's ski country. The result is an enjoyable read
featuring Olympic-level skiing, dysfunctional family, and a glorious setting. The novel's strength lies in Parker's description of the taut world of high stakes skiing. The skillfully written work is thus engaging enough to forgive predictable plotting and stereotypical characters. An apt fireside companion after a long day on the slopes.

I was interested in reading this book because of my fascination with the skiing circuit. The book was a quick read but since I found the plot predictable, I was disappointed. I felt like I was reading a soap! I have read other books by the author that in my opinion were much better written.

I had mixed feelings about this novel. I was engrossed by parts of it, and rather turned off by others. The writing is very good, and the story is interesting, but perhaps it was the bizarre thoughts and behavior of Sky that bothered me--all that talk of punishment and apologizing. It didn't ring true. Of course, it was that "crazy blood", but I didn't like it. I can see this book evoking some good book club discussion.

I would like to be positive about this book, but I found it a difficult book to read. It did not flow and it felt disjointed to me. I didn't care about the characters, there was not enough development of the characters to relate to them. I have had some experience with ski racing, but found the book didn't make me want to know as much as was presented. I think there was some potential to make it a better read.

The story is okay but I was not impressed with the presentation. I admit I struggled to finish the book. I could have put it down but in all fairness I wanted to finish the book.

The story of the Carson family, patriarch Adam and his two grandsons, one of which is illegitimate, revolves around the world of skiing. The murder of the grandsons father by his legal wife causes tensions and a rivalry between these two grandsons. For me the book was slow and I had a hard time getting through it but it was well written and deserves a chance.

Crazy Blood was just OK. It was heavy on description and light on character development. The family saga could have been very interesting, but it fell flat. I am a skier so I liked all the ski talk! The ending was abrupt and cliche. I would not recommend this book. Sorry!
