The Big Finish by Brooke Fossey
The Big Finish is a big -hearted story full of warmth and humor. Duffy's tough exterior is put to the test when he realizes his best friend's granddaughter, Josie, is in serious trouble, fighting a demon he's all too familiar with.

Determined to save her, Duffy rises to the occasion, with a little help from the residents of Centennial Assisted Living.

Along the way Duffy learns it's never too late to change or to start living life with gusto. Lighthearted, but poignant, boasting a large cast of zany characters, The Big Finish is a delightful story about redemption, friendship, family and second chances. Recommended to fans of "A Man Called Ove".

Getting Old is Not for Wimps!
While the plot itself is nothing unique, the assisted-living community and its senior residents are unusual. The book makes you really understand how fragile our bodies become as we age and the uncertainties we'll face as we struggle with old age.

I'm not sure that younger readers would be all that interested in the book, but I think a lot of book clubs would find plenty to discuss. I'm not sure if seniors would enjoy it. I thought about recommending it to my Mom (age 81), but I don't think she'd enjoy it. She feels like she's "read enough books about old people."

Fun and different!
I loved, loved, loved this book! The characters were fun, lovable and well developed. I can only hope that I'm that sharp and spunky when I'm that age. I hope that there's a sequel down the road.....

The Big Finish
Having read Berg's The Story of Arthur Truluv, I looked forward to The Big Finish. While I didn't find the writing as good, it's a fun read. The story opens in a small assisting living facility where Duffy and Carl are roommates. I didn't particularly like Duffy in the beginning but he grew on me as the story progressed. The plot did not go as I expected, which kept me reading to the end. And like the title says, there is a big finish.

Quirky
And interesting premise but not for me. If you take it as a fun goofy book, great read. Older folks in nursing home I found too depressing. I thought most characters not well developed. Although quite likable. I liked how light she kept everything - no social or political commentary. Felt like the author had several themes to develop and strung them together into a plot and it didn't quite work...

Drama in assisted living facility
An assisted living facility is not your usual setting and octogenarians are not your usual characters. Fast paced story about family and friendship. The characters will keep you interested and touch your heart.

The Big Finish Review
I found The Big Finish to be a delightful read with a cast of humorous characters and fun story line. The story, which takes place in an assisted living facility, interweaves the realistic challenges of aging, friendship and family with a not so realistic story of the community coming to the rescue of Carl's granddaughter Josie. The author managed to develop both loving and loyal characters who go to any length to help Josie, all the while remaining true to their cantankerous selves. I will enjoy reading more from this author.

The Big Finish
The Big Finish should definitely be packed in your travel bag for some light reading at the beach or on a trip. It's a fast moving easily followed novel with just the right number of characters… a book you can sit back and read like a magazine. I don't think the plot is "meaty" enough for a book group discussion, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and will recommend it to my friends.

I found myself rooting for Carl and Duffy, two octogenarians in an assisted living facility, to overcome their demons and rally around Josie, Carl's alcoholic granddaughter. In a matter of just 5 days, entire lifetimes of choices and regrets are exposed. Family and friendship, guilt and pride, trust and truth all combined to endear these two men to me and made them men I would be happy to call Grandpa.
