Shoot the Lawyer Twice
A book for those who want to plow through seemingly endless dialogue among people who fancy themselves extremely quick-witted and intellectually superior. Lawyers and professors make up the cast of this shallow exercise in the bon mot, or as one puts it, the "bon mediocre." Not much happens, and since much information is withheld, the reader must wait until the characters choose to reveal it and thereby demonstrate their insights and cleverness. Only for those desperate for something to read.

Shoot the Lawyer Twice?
How about shooting authors of what I consider to be poorly written and confusing books? This was the first book in years I almost quit reading in the first 50 or so pages. I couldn't understand what was going on, who was doing what to whom, or the bad guys from the good girls or vice versa.

I would not suggest reading this book to anyone unless they are very bored and desperate for something to read.

Shoot Me Twice
If I have to read any more Bowen / Pennyworth novels. They're far too clever for me.

Michael Bowen appears to be a very smart man and wants to share his brilliance with his readers, but I can't say I appreciate his efforts. His characters, Lawyer Rep Pennyworth and Professor Melissa Pennyworth, come across as smug, pretentious and have 'obnoxiously superior attitudes'; so much so, another character in the book even mentions the latter. I did not enjoy spending time with these people. Every character in the book is wise, witty and very proficient with the ripostes. But the puns and tongue in check humor fall flat. There's extremely little character description or development, too many pointless plot points and a weak story. Bowens condescending comments of other authors came across as patronizing and pointless as did his portrayal of academia. I don't think I'll be recommending this, the previous 3 or any future books in this series.
