More descriptions than story
I found Her to have wonderful descriptions of the environment, detail about what each character was doing or wearing but little actual plot or story. It seemed the descriptions were added to make the story long enough. I did appreciate some of the suspense and seeing situations from both character's points of view though there was unneeded repetition.

Ominous Reading
Her is a novel that grows more ominous with each chapter. I found it difficult to engage early on but the second half picked up speed. It's interesting to have the perspective of both main characters, while still maintaining some mystery about what would happen next. The ending was too vague for my liking, though I'm sure I know what happened. Would have liked another chapter or two for closure. Overall, an enjoyable read and good for book clubs.

Is it Her or Me
Maybe it's me, but I am not taken by this book from Harriet Lane. The storyline was meandering, filled with scenes, vignettes and little action. To me, the story seemed to be all adjectives with no verbs. The plot conveyed some sparks of insight into the two primary characters and developed a bit of tension, which kept me reading to the end. Within this book, there was an appropriate review of itself--"I found the final plot twist unsatisfying" and again "I don't think I like these characters". Mercifully, the book is short.

HER
I found the book lacking. The characters were well developed and you had a good sense of their feelings and time of life they were experiencing. But there needed to be more substance to the storyline. I did not like the repetition in some of the chapters.
The reader needed a better ending then they received and I didn't find the story as compelling as it could have been.

Slow Going
I usually read a book in two days. This one took forever because I kept putting it down. It dragged so badly. Many books I have read have alternating narrators, and I usually enjoy this. Emma and Nina when alternating were giving too much of the same information. Nina was a sociopath intent on repaying Emma for a wrong she committed as a teenager. It was so minor as to be missed by anyone. The nasty and sometimes criminal acts Nina performed on Emma's family were entertaining. The ending of the book was shocking. I can't really recommend this book because there is so many good books out there to be read, whymore

Loose Ends
I was so excited to get this book. From the description it seemed like it was going to be the perfect book. The book started off with enough intrigue to keep you interested however, as the book went on chunks of the story seem to be left out. The author did a fantastic job of helping the reader visualize scenes but I would send this one back to the drawing board to tighten up all those loose ends.
