About this book

Book Summary

Dr. Kay Scarpetta, now freelancing with the National Forensic Academy in Florida, takes charge of a case that stretches from steamy Florida to snowbound Boston, one that at first appears as unnerving as any she has ever faced. The teasing psychological clues lead Scarpetta and her team - Pete Marino, Benton Wesley and Lucy Farinelli - to suspect that they are hunting someone with a cunning and malevolent mind whose secrets have kept them in the shadows, until now. Predator is proof once again that Patricia Cornwell has few peers in her extraordinary powers to entertain and enthrall.

Media Reviews

"The contrived plot that drags Scarpetta out of the classroom and onto the killing fields in pursuit of a madman…plays out in too fragmented a form to sustain much suspense." - New York Times

A former award-winning police reporter for the Charlotte Observer, Cornwell worked for more than six years as a computer analyst in the chief medical examiner's office in Virginia, where she witnessed hundreds of autopsies and even assisted as a "scribe," recording the measurements of the wounds of murder victims. During that time, she also was a volunteer with the Richmond Police Department, and has spent time with law enforcement around the world.

Those experiences inspired her to create Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a tenacious chief medical examiner who tracks ...
