The story was enhanced by the appearance of Milly, the spirit/ghost of Anna’s dead sister. She provided Anna with reassurance, comfort and a sense of forgiveness.

The story was enhanced by utilizing the mystical to help explain how sometimes this provides comfort to those who are hurting. It also helped to intertwine the two storylines.

Having been in Ireland, I was surprised that the"little people" did not play a larger art in the story. I found more humor with the evil eye!

Not being Irish or having traveled there, I only heard of the leprechans. This stuff about fairies was new to me. They are not the same?? It confused me.

I loved all of the fairy lore that was used. I also loved how Anna's sister comforted her.

I grew up with an Irish grandmother who often spoke of the Good People. I loved how this book wove them into the story and culture. They are alive and well in Ireland. I also loved how firmly Anna believed that Milly was with them.

Millie was there as a protective spirit for her sister, and in a very tangible way in killing George Hawthorne. The woman with the dark scarf, who appeared occasionally, the story had an overall feeling of supernatural spirits working around the characters.

It seems that the people who "need" to see the fairies are able to see them. The question is do they actually "see" the fairies or are the fairies a manifestation of their own deep desires and struggles to make sense of their losses. It doesn't really matter, in the end, because when healing happens, belief follows.

If superstition and fairies are spoken of then the supernatural is there. It is all wrapped up in one. To have one you must have the others. See that not what Harold went looking for?
