Did you find yourself sympathizing more with Christie or Jamie? Who do you think was more at fault, or do you believe that both women were doing the best they could?

Christie and Jamie have a relatively strained relationship. Did you find yourself sympathizing with one woman more than the other? Who do you think was more at fault for the issues in their relationship, or do you believe that both women were doing the best they could?

I did not have sympathy for either character. If that was the author's intent...oops...

Neither character was likeable. There were a few redeeming qualities in both of them but I don't think I felt empathy for either of them.

I agree. I didn't like either of them. They were both at fault for the relationship and neither tried to make it better.

I found Jamie was more sympathetic in the point of having to deal with her husband's ex but I thought she dealt with it until this incident happened. I thought she could have been more sympathetic to her husband and let him know she was totally supporting him. Christie was there for him but I think she wanted more from him. I didn't sympathize with her but she was there to help him. It was a tough situation. With all the problems happening to the police today, my first thought is with how I would the family is dealing with it.

I sympathized with Jamie because she was always so organized and in control. When the shooting occurred and Mike was charged, she became overwhelmed with worry about her family's future. Christie was pretty self-absorbed and kind of coasting along. She was lucky Henry was such a responsible kid.

If I had to pick one, I'd say I had a bit more sympathy for Jamie. Honestly, I found both characters to be rather unlikable. Christie was the stereotypical "bad girl" by being irresponsible and impulsive with jobs, money, etc., while Jamie was the stereotypical paranoid/scorned woman. It was difficult to believe that someone in Jamie's position could be so completely blind as to why her husband was shutting down and living in a separate part of the house.

If either, I had more sympathy for Jamie. Both women weren't very likeable and were selfish and seemed to be only out for themselves.

I sympathized more with Jamie who clearly had her hands full. That whole situation was a weight loss plan in action with all that stress.

I really didn't sympathize with either of them, really didn't like them very much.
However I do think Christie showed the most growth over the course of the novel.

Definitely Jamie even thought she had her faults. I didn't like Christie at all.

It was hard to sympathisize with either woman. They both had huge flaws. But they are both doing the best they could to cope with the circumstances.

I sympathized with Jamie more than Christie. She seemed to have her act together but when push came to shove she kind of shut down. I think Christie was there for Mike but had ulterior motives. Not really sure who was more to blame-probably Jamie as she was the current wife. She and Mike definitely had some communication issues.Mike was just as bad at communicating his feelings as Jamie.

It was hard to sympathize with either one of these ladies, one was frivolous and into herself, the other too controlling. Really didn't care for either of them.

I felt more sympathy for Christie because I really believe she was worried about what was going to happen with her children if their father was convicted.

I think both women were doing the best they could given the situation that happened.

I had more sympathy for Jamie - but I didn't really like either character very much. I liked Lou. I do think it seemed like both women were doing the best they could and what they thought was right.
