Given the number of things that might have happened to Alice Russell, were you surprised at the outcome?

Given the number of things that might have happened to Alice Russell, were you surprised at the outcome? Did you suspect Lauren might be responsible, or did you think someone or something else more likely?

No, not surprised. All the women acted suspiciously, in my opinion. I did think that Lauren was the least suspect but even she was capable

I wasn't surprised, but I didn't think that Beth or Bree did it. That would have been too obvious. I never suspected Lauren. I actually suspected one of the Bailey's the whole time.

I was surprised. It was clear that Alice was not the nicest person but I too thought it might be a Bailey and that the conversation Alice had with Daniel might have been around her contact with Aaron Falk. In fact, I thought that the corporate outing would have been a beautiful setup and a way to get rid of Alice with it looking like an accident.

I usually go into a mystery wanting to be surprised, so I don't really try to figure the murderer out (unless it hits me in the face). I just - I hope - enjoy the ride. And I certainly did in this case. I didn't suspect Lauren, but by the end it seemed logical - which is the hallmark of a good mystery - keep you guessing, but yet no cheating!

Yes, I thought Daniel Bailey had figured out she was working with Falk and wanted to take her out.

I was not surprised. It seemed unlikely that she would be alive due to being a mystery and the setting in this book. It would have been a disappointment, all due respect if she turns out to be alive or it was an accident.

Yes, I was surprised, gladly so. I don’t like mysteries that are too obvious. Over the years I have read so many that it takes a lot to surprise me!

I thought the author did an excellent job of making every character appear to be the "bad guy" at some point in this novel - with the exception possibly of Beth. I never expected her, but I did even think at one point the service station man might have been involved - especially since he was not there when Erin and Carmen returned to the Ranges one last time. Alice was such a contentious person; she had such a strong personality and was so domineering, that it seemed to me at some point someone would have enough of her. I did not believe that she would ever be delivering the contracts as she was supposed to - however, I never guessed that Lauren would be the one to eliminate her in the end.

I wasn't surprised that Alice was dead. I expected as much when it took so much time to find her. I was not expecting Lauren to be the one to kill her, albeit an accident. I also didn't expect the coverup by Bree, although I think she thought she was covering up for Beth. I liked learning each woman's story and probably any one of them could have done away with Alice at some point because she was not a likable person. The word "bully" comes to mind.

Yes I was surprised by who killed her. All during the novel I kept thinking maybe it's this person or that but I never guessed Lauren.

I agree with Marcia S in that the author did a good job of making it possible for many of the characters to get fed up with Alice and have something "happen" to her. She was a bully, and under the stress of being lost, hungry, and cold, people can do things they might not otherwise consider doing. I would of never guessed Lauren

I wasn't really surprised with 'who' did it, since they all seemed to have a problem with Alice in one way or another. It was more 'how' that surprised me. It was also interesting how the reader was also led into the direction of Kovac and the history behind that ordeal, creating other scenarios on her disappearance. Definitely a page-turner.

It wasn't surprise as in shock, but it was a surprise in that I was always guessing what might have happened. There were many twists and turns that kept the reader wondering what the outcome would be. It seemed like the right amount of clues and the right amount of mystery for a really good read.

The outcome did surprise me. Alice was an unlikeable person who might have wandered off and gotten hurt on her own as she intended to find her own way back. But having the author give us the real killer, even though it was an accident, was a great way to tie up any loose ends.

I suspected the outcome. I did, however, hope this was not going to be the case, especially after we found out about Magot and her problems. I thought it would be Daniel
