If you had been Joey, what would you have done with the antique pistol?

Truly, I'm not sure. I'd like to think I would take a more above-the-board approach but sheer terror can make us take action we regret over time. As an aside, I did think the policy behavior toward Marshall was a bit extreme. I think I would have hid it in a more secure place until circumstances had more time to gel.

Good question! As I read the part where Joey finds the gun, I was thinking “ get rid of it!,” 🤣 The part of me that cherishes family heirlooms and antiques wanted to keep it, but the part of me that was so afraid Marshall was being framed and wouldn’t be able to protect himself was so hoping Joey would take action to protect his dad. I agree with the above posts, the manner in which the police treated Marshall was appalling.

I definitely would have dumped the gun if I thought any member of my family was involved or had the potential to be framed. And although Joey was troubled by his decision, he also realized that he would be required to do his own investigative work as the police continued to focus on his father.

When Joey first dumped the gun, I was appalled and didn't think I would have done that. I would have wanted to see the ballistic results prior to getting rid of it, since it could also prove innocence as well as guilt. As time went on and I read more, he probably did the right thing for his family.

I feel like the visceral response is to do what Joey did and get rid of it. My higher self says no that is wrong you have to keep it in case your father killed someone. But sometimes my higher self is a nut job, and my lizard brain is the one I have to listen to. You know when my dad with dementia might be implicated in a murder and stuff. I was actually surprisingly fine with his decision.

I would probably have ditched the gun also. But if he had turned it in, ballistics would have indicated it wasn't the murder weapon. However, the police were not professional or even semi-enlightened. After the murderer is identified, they still want to locate the missing gun and threaten to take the issue to the DA.

I probably would have wanted to get rid of it also to protect my family. But just like Joey, it would have haunted me. The fact that there was a second gun saved his worry about his father. The way the police questioned Marshall showed their lack of understanding about his disease. He was unable to give them any credible information.

I've thought about this one a bunch, and I'm not sure! At first I thought it was silly for him to move the gun. Certainly his father didn't have the wherewithal to commit the murder - it surprised me that either Joey or the police would think otherwise, even briefly. So when Joey first found the gun, I thought he was making a mistake to move it. But then, as the police seemed to focus on Marshall, I thought it was good that Joey dumped it. I was shocked that it turned up, and found myself wondering how it could possibly have gotten back to the police.

My first inclination would be to drop it into the lake as Joey did. But I think I would have waited and buried it in the ground of one of the numerous construction sites that are all around my area. Or I might take it with me when I travel to my hometown and bury it in the woods I used to hike.

Like others, I didn't agree with Joey's decision to drop the gun in the water, for obvious reasons, and especially with Bubba present, even with his back turned. When the gun is recovered, I believed Bubba might have been responsible for that. Like Joey and Leela's romance, I wasn't sold on the pair of guns thing. What a stroke of fortune, eh?
