Who was your favorite character?

Who was your favorite character? What character did you empathize with the most, and how did they change by the end of the novel? Were there any characters you disliked? Why?

Patrik, though I loved Amineh but sometimes I found her irritating.

RE: Who was your favorite character?...

Amineh was my favorite character as I could relate to her personal doubts and struggle to be loved and respected. She was a strong woman which showed from time to time when she stood up to Farzad. Patrik would be my second favorite character because he was such a loving and devoted man who did his best to honor and respect the wife of his friend under difficult circumstances. His devotion to his partner Annette was remarkable with the burden that it brought him.

Hands down, Amineh was my favorite character. I was able to identify with Amineh and her struggles with her past and present situations. I liked that she eventually did learn her self-worth and could experience true joy in her life's journey.

I really liked Patrik. He was kind, pragmatic and dedicated to things he was passionate about. I also really liked Sohrab - he had the fun spirit of a little boy!

Amineh was the star and I really liked her. Patrik may have been my favorite - he added story line that was unexpected.

I liked her friend Ava. She was smart, enjoyed life, married and had a child. Considering all the things going on during her life when she knew Amineh, she seemed the most grounded.

Amineh and Jalalod-Din! His wisdom helped her connect with her inner self and blossom into a brave, faithful and loving woman.

Amineh..she was the most developed character in the book and I identified with her universal struggle to find her place in the world. The growth that she experienced over the course of the book was inspiring.

RE: Who was your favorite character?...

Patrik was my favorite. I thought he brought a real contrast to many other characters, especially because he was from another culture. He was a constant and stable support for Amineh throughout most of the book. Patrick was able to provide Amineh the emotional connection that was lacking in her marriage. They both seemed to connect at a deep level over the years in spite of the fact that they couldn't be together.

RE: Who was your favorite character?...

Patrik came across as the nicest guy but one with strong convictions and passion while also being pragmatic and always wanting to do right by others.

Loved Mahasti for her free spirit and the courage to challenge her brother despite being so much younger.

Amineh, of course was the most complex. Despite her complex upbringing, she came across as the independent thinker despite honoring the tradition of family and commitments, standing her ground every now and then with the likes of Ava and Patrik by her side.

Fatemah was the least likeable, along with Naser and Vaziri. Not to forget the grandmother
