Who do you believe was taking the bigger risks in the relationship, Noah or Sally?

I definitely think Sally was taking the bigger risks. Noah had fame, Noah had a lot of money. That kind of status makes it so much easier to reach out to others. If one person rejects you, there are 25 more in line, and you can just go shopping to make yourself feel better! I’m not suggesting that Noah’s life was a piece of cake, but he had advantages that most of us don’t that made dealing with his own issues easier.
Sally was a very private person. Her job was “off stage” and her work hours meant that she didn’t have the most convenient schedule for meeting others in traditional ways. She was pretty insular outside of her work friends and stepdad. Once she made the decision to go to LA, she was completely out of her comfort zone. Noah had his home, his routines, his exercise coach to support him as he and Sally navigated their new relationship.

I would agree with those postings above that say Sally took the greater risk - for all the reasons she satirized in the Danny Horst rule. All of sudden, you're famous and your life gets picked apart by the media and social media just because you're dating someone famous. Sally is portrayed as a very private person so being thrust into the spotlight would be frightening - especially if the relationship didn't work out.

Both of them took risks to follow their interest in each other. Sally was adept at hiding her true self and led a private life, Noah had a much more public presence but he too attempted to have his privacy. Although they initially pushed away from each other, Noah risked rejection by reaching out to Sally after quite some time had passed. Sally took a risk by going to see Noah in person. I enjoyed their banter and how they opened up to each other during their email exchanges.

At first I assumed it was Sally, as she had made the most obvious changes, and therefore we see the greater risk. But, Noah also had to take some risk as well, so I don't know that it is so clearcut who took the most risk. They both had to take risks based on their own individual situations.

I don't think the risks are so easily quantified. Clearly, Sally appears at first blush to take the greatest risks since she has been hurt in the past and has to make herself vulnerable to Noah in order to explore the relationship. Nobody wants to have their heart broken . . . again! She was the one who exploited the Danny Horst Rule for laughs and might be subjected to the rule in her personal life. Ouch!! But the public scrutiny Noah deals with on a daily basis should not be overlooked, and celebrities are human beings who are frequently hurt by such malicious gossip, speculation, etc. People are quick to say it's just part of their job, a price they pay to be rich and famous, but public figures are still real people with lives and feelings. Sure, Noah has opportunities to be with many different women . . . who perhaps want to be with him because he is Noah. All they see is the public man. He wants a woman who will love him for who he really is - offstage, no cameras, shopping incognito at Target for supplies to care for her stepfather. His risk of being hurt is no lower or less monumental than Sally's.
