It is not normally the kind of book I read… Im more of a historical fiction reader where I can learn something while Im reading. And at first, I thought I wasn't really going to care that much for this book, but I found that it was really entertaining and I totally got into the story and was rooting for love to win. Turns out, I give it a high rating !

I was a little surprised that this was a BookBrowse choice for some of the reasons beckys listed above. I was also unfamiliar with Curtis Sittenfeld. After researching her, the choice makes more sense.
I did enjoy the book-it was perfect for picking up between “weightier” books. It was a book I didn’t have to think a lot about as I read. However, as I process it after reading, there are certainly meaty themes and questions to consider!

I’ve read other books by Sittenfeld (Sisterland, Eligible, American Wife) and enjoyed her writing. However this novel didn’t hit the mark. Sally’s constant rumination’s and over thinking became annoying. It seemed everything went on for just a few pages too long. The use of email and texts actually saved the book.

I was quite surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I don't normally read anything in the romance genre and maybe I should check it out more as this was a fun romp of a read. I do agree that the Sally whines/insecurities/ruminations got tedious at times, but they are also what provided the needed tension to keep you engrossed. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and will check out others written by the author.

Really, I cannot remember why I chose to read a book with the word "romantic" in its title. I read mostly fiction and lately almost exclusively mysteries. The words "serial killer" are most likely to entice me to a book.
However, I really liked Romantic Comedy. I related to the nerdy woman who questioned the handsome guy's attraction and I enjoyed the SNL-like setting and then the COVID era story.

I really enjoyed the book! My favorite parts included all the backstage info about how a thinly veiled SNL gets written and performed, as well as the way Sittenfeld made Noah & Sally's relationship believable, particularly the email exchanges in the middle part of the book. I don't often have much time to read for myself these days, but I zipped through this story in only a few days because it was so much fun to read. I do think Sally would have benefited from therapy, though, to help her be less insecure and whiny. And to help her cope with her mother's death and her trust issues with men. On the other hand, it was pretty realistic to have a normal-looking non-celebrity doubt why a gorgeous mega-celebrity would be serious about a romantic relationship with her, especially with her history of divorce, rejection, that non-romantic sexual arrangement she had.

I just finished another book recently by author Katherine Center. Romantic Comedy reminds me a lot of books written by Katherine Center, Christina Lauren, and Emily Henry.
I was unfamiliar with Curtis Sittenfeld so after reading I picked up some of her others like Prep, the American Wife, and a collection of short stories. Romantic Comedy seems like a departure from her typical style.
I wondered if other readers of hers noticed this or felt this way.

I may be in the minority but I didn’t enjoy the book that much. Much of the first half I found boring and overlong. It needed editing. It was also hard to stop and pick up because of the lack of chapter divisions. Part of it was that I couldn’t identify with Sally. The only part of her we saw throughout the first half of the novel was the cerebral part which were internal monologues. The pace changed with the email exchanges and when they reconnected physically. I thought the author was not letting us make our own judgments of Sally. We were being spoon fed everything about her. I also thought Noah was portrayed as too perfect. What flaws did he have? None that I could see and that was not realistic.

Overall, I did not enjoy the book, but it is light and reflected of ooo culture fanatics. But the plot, the setting, the interaction of the characters is popular with many readers-write for the majority. Being a "Reese" choice describes the essence of the novel, Romantic Comedy.

Very well written
I really enjoyed this book. At first I wasn’t sure if I would be too old to enjoy it. I will be 74 tomorrow! But I think this book will be a fun read for a wide range of ages. I even liked the texting section though some of the acronyms flew right by me. Not even sure that’s what they are called nowadays.
The author did a wonderful job of portraying the main characters insecurities and relationships with a variety of people. At the end I was thinking to myself he had done an excellent job portraying his female characters. Turned to look at that back and found out Curtis is a girl’s name!
I should have known!

I read this book earlier than this offering, because of the author. I had read her book called American President.
I appreciate the strong writing skills reflected in the language and structure. I also enjoyed learning about a Saturday Night Live show. Fun but with a strong message.
It was a winner for me and I glad Book Browse made it available for others.
