Why do you suppose the twins' mother picked one daughter over the other? How do you feel this may have influenced the adult each became? What might have been different if she’d included both?

The twins’ mother picks Lil to take over guardianship of the pond and golden pecan tree. Why do you suppose she picked one twin over the other? How do you feel this may have influenced the adult each twin became? What might have been different if she’d included both daughters?

I think the mother knew which daughter would take care of the pond and magical tree. She also knew the town and which daughter would be more "respected" as the keeper. Had both of them both been included in the magical guardianship, I'm sure they would have accepted their roles just as the mother had seen them.

The mother knew the personalities of the twins and felt that Lil should be the one to take care of the pond and magical tree. Choosing only one she thought would be best so there would not be conflicting ideas of what to do.

I think most mothers pick a child for different things. A mother knows what a child can handle. I don’t think it was favoritism.

The mother acknowledged that her daughters, although twins, were individuals. Lil was more in tune with the land. Sasha needed to be set free. I think her mother wanted to protect Sasha, a young gay girl in a small town would not have it easy.

Al three of my children have their own unique strengths and weaknesses. I also don’t think this was favoritism on their mom’s part. I just think that when it came to the orchard Lil was more qualified and more interested

I assume the mother picked Lil because she felt she would be best for the role. But by not explaining this to Sasha, she left Sasha confused

i assume the mother knew her twins' strong points. As a mother of two young women, i am well aware of their strong points and would be able to make such a decision easily. Each of them have their own personality, their own strengths and flaws.

She knew their strengths and perhaps there was also a bit of which one of them she could influence more. My mother is a twin - the younger one by minutes. Her mother gave her responsibility for something and my aunt resented it throughout their lives. It was definitely a burden for my mother but one she refused to let go. My siblings and cousins now share the financial responsibility by rotating annually. Not sure what will happen with the next generation.

RE: Why do you suppose the twins' ...

The mother picking Lil freed up Sasha to leave and learn about the rest of the world. The mother knew of the heartache staying in the orchard caused and only wanted one of the twins to be subjected to that. Had she included both girls they both would have been cheated out of knowing what else the world could provide.
