This is not the type of book I normally read, with shapeshifting, time travel, and magical events. Having said that, it was compelling and kept me interested to the end.

I love stories that have a gothic atmosphere. This had a lot of it.
I really enjoyed the strange happenings in this book.

I really feel the same way harriett does. I have trouble with magic in books because I don’t always think the necessary connections are made so that the plot makes sense to me. However, I loved the setting and the author’s description of the orchard and town. I thought the characters were well developed, and I was interested in them enough to want to know what in the heck was happening in their town to keep reading!

I did not enjoy this book as others did. The first half was obviously a setup and, in my opinion, stumbled a bit trying to get to the desired ending. I would not have finished the book if I had not received an advance copy.

Glad others found it enjoyable.

For me, there was a lot of disjointedness in this novel. I prefer books with a clearer path to reveals. I thought it might be due to having two authors.
I live in small southern town and felt there would be more for me to relate to, the trips into town and the goings on started to feel redundant. It did feel like I was also trapped in the setting for a bit.

I thought this was a beautifully written book. I don’t typically read ‘fantasy’, but I enjoyed this book and looked FirePro what was happening next.

I don’t usually enjoy books that are more fantasy than real but I loved this book and especially the sisters. There were some lose ends that I would have liked to see tied up but they didn’t distract from my enjoyment

I found the relationship between the sisters to be interesting and relatable. But overall, I struggled with the story line, or lines. There was just too much going on and I found it difficult to follow.

I didn't enjoy this book as much as I had hoped and struggled getting through it, unfortunately.

This was not my normal book that I would pick to read. I did finish the book and it was ok but not something that caught my attention and kept me interested. However, it was well written and the characters were descriptive and had many levels. The author did a great job with writing this story. There could be a possibility of me reading another book by her sometime.

I found this book to be interesting and hard to put down partly because throughout most of the book I couldn’t figure out what was really going on. How did fires burn buildings that resumed their previous appearance? Who were the children living in the forest? Why was kudzu so aggressive? What was the secret?

There were parts of the book that I really loved. I thought the Southern gothic effect was especially well done, and I really enjoyed the characters. I, too, found it hard to put down because of trying to figure out what was what. I closed the cover feeling good about the reading experience, although I definitely wish some of the weirdness had been better explained.

I loved the mystical quality and the open end of the book. We can only imagine the future for these characters

I'm pleased this book was sent for me to review, but sad because I couldn't get into the story. I kept putting it aside to read something else. Perhaps I'll give it another try in the future.

I had a lot of difficulty getting into the book. In the beginning chapters, the Author was using too many unnecessary adjectives to set up the town and characters. The book then jumped into a confusing mystical, science fiction plot that never really melded together. I forced myself to get through it - more curious than interested to see where it would go. In the end, not very satisfying

This was my first arc and unfortunately I did not enjoy it as I had hoped. I am not a quitter and determined to finish. Once I was about 2/3 of the way through, the story picked up enough to keep me engaged. I think there was great potential in the story lines but there were too many unanswered questions for me.

There were things that seemed to have purpose in the story, but I'm still thinking about their significance. The Kudzu was described as very aggressive and seemed to want to snare people, but its purpose remained a mystery as the imagery never really went anywhere. The description of Theron's appearance in the town and his transformation into the "hungry man" seemed somewhat overly dramatic but was probably needed to explain how he could become Jason. Lil sees him and Jason together at Russ's funeral. When she asks Jason what Theon had wanted, he is evasive with his answers. Is that when Jason disappears and Theon takes his place? The Pecan Children is the kind of book that stays with me for a while. I keep going back to passages which might explain the missing pieces.

I keep trying to read books that feature magical realism, and I keep proving to myself that it just isn't my type of reading.

As always, I am grateful to receive another book to read and review. Overall, I was disappointed with it, never quite "grabbed" me. I enjoyed its Southern Gothic tones, its character, but the storyline left a lot to be desired.

I enjoyed the first two-thirds of the book, but the last 100 pages became something of a drag. It got so dark and convoluted that I had a hard time following it and didn't enjoy much of the last third.

Overall I liked the book. It wasn't a simple read - the story had interesting characters and situations that made me think about interactions and obligations. Not sure I understood all of the things that happened like kudzu grabbing people but that's okay with me if it fits into the general theme of the book. However, the story didn't really stay with me as I was reading. I kept having to start / stop reading due to personal obligations and when I picked it back up, I would have to go back a few pages to catch myself up again. The part I thought about most was having things (land in this case) passed down and the sense of responsibility and obligation that imparts.

I agreed with heatherj in that I enjoyed at least the first half of the book, but I found the last 100 pages forced into making the "magical" mysteries come together. I thought lindao's comments insightful about how elements did tie together. It's an interesting feat to have two authors. The setting and characters were well drawn-I liked the relationships between the two sisters. It had some quality elements but overall the book did not work for me. I also thought it got overwritten and trite in the last chapters.

RE: Overall, what did you think of The ...

This book felt incomplete to me. Some parts read very well and connected various parts of the story together, but some parts seemed to fail. There were times within the story that I felt lost, not knowing what I was supposed to understand. All in all the time loop came thru well - the relationship between the sisters and extended characters worked well, but there were parts that I never found a sound reason for.
