I thoroughly enjoyed this book about a topic I was completely ignorant of! I previously read The House of Lincoln which was fair, whereas The Lincoln Conspiracy really revealed Lincoln's character, wit, faith, and his loyalty & devotion to his country.
I have already recommended this book to several people.

I've read The First Conspiracy and the Nazi Conspiracy, and really enjoyed them, but this one was my favorite. I think it's a combination of not knowing a lot about the time period, and the fact that this plot was definitely in motion. I felt like the other two books contained a lot more speculation.

I loved this book! It was so well researched, historical fiction that was an absolute page turner. There was so much information that I had never heard about, not just the conspiracy itself and it’s resolution, but also the details about Lincoln, the political system of nominating candidates, the utter disregard for safety. That there were factions that wanted to retain slavery was not surprising, but the organization and methods used were extremely clever. Thank goodness they didn’t have the internet!

I wasn't sure about how much I would like this book at first, but I ended up completely engaged. Growing up in Chicago, I loved the connections to Illinois, and specifically Chicago. I learned so much that I had never known. I have always admired President Lincoln, but this gave me an even deeper appreciation of him. I will definitely pass this book on to friends!

I really enjoyed this book, the short chapters and wealth of well researched information made it fast paced and interesting. I felt like the authors gave us a window into the experience that Lincoln had while going from a small town lawyer to the leader of a country torn apart by War. I was also interested in the information about the role of The Pinkerton Detectives and the background of that agency.

I loved the structure of this book. The author early on sets up the teaser—the conspiracy, but then shifts into the history and politics which, for some time, dominates the narrative. With the reader armed with an appreciation of the setting and times the story is morphed back into the conspiracy—information to intrigue.

I greatly enjoyed this book and was absorbed into it from the moment I opened it. I love the way these authors draw us into history in a fresh and interactive perspective. We so often forget that the people we know of in history are just people in historic situations. I learn so much from these authors without them preaching at me to convince me of a certain idea or ideal. they allow us to walk through history, observe what is happening and never once do they tell me how I should feel about it.

It was a page-turner, even though I didn’t expect it to be. I was unaware of these historical events, and appreciated the way that it enlightened the context in which the election of Lincoln took place. I loved the structure of the book as it moved back and forth between all the players to keep the plot moving along in a chronological way. The short chapters helped me to keep straight the people, places and events. A fascinating story told in an engaging way. I’m a fan!

I very much enjoyed this book. Of course, anything related to Abraham Lincoln immediately grabs my attention. The book does a good job of maintaining suspense even though I already knew the broad facts related to President-Elect Lincoln's trip through Baltimore. Thank goodness Pinkerton kept numerous contemporaneous notes! I had previously read The Nazi Conspiracy and thus recognized the same type of writing used in this book and found it to work well here, also. I recommend to those mainstream readers interested in the Civil War or Abraham Lincoln.

I've read and enjoyed all three of the conspiracy books by Meltzer and Mensch, but feel “The Lincoln Conspiracy” was the best because there was much more action within a shorter period of time. The book grabbed my attention from the first page, was hard to put down and moved a long at a good pace without getting bogged down. It was interesting to also learn how different the nomination process and activity prior to the inauguration were compared to the process now.

Loved it! I have read many books about Lincoln and the Lincoln Conspiracy told more about Lincoln before he became president than most books. Brad Meltzer and Josh Mensch write amazing historical fiction! Loved The First Conspiracy, but I believe this book was better!

Normally, history books are not page-turners, but the authors tell this story almost like a historical novel with great suspense, even though we know the ending. I couldn't put it down! While the conspiracy provides the suspense, almost like a thriller novel, there is much early biographical information about Lincoln that I did not know. I highly recommend the book and give it 5 stars.
