Rosaline tells Romeo that he "cannot tilt at fate," he'll lose. How large a role, do you think, does fate play in the story? How much of what occurs is by design? How much a part does fate plays in your own life, in your opinion?

I don’t think it’s truly fate that that brings Romeo down. Rather it’s his predilections and Rosaline connivances. Particularly as Solomons has rewritten the end. Rosaline makes everything happen. She even blames herself for being in the wrong place (the Capulet ball) and causing the meeting of Romeo and Juliet.
Certainly Romeo is fated to died but it’s his own vain glory (even in Shakespeare) that brings it about.
