To get a better view of the village, Liz climbs past a barbed wire fence. Did this surprise you? If you’d been in her position, would you have dared do likewise?

I was surprised at Liz's bold decision to climb past the fence, especially knowing that
detonating unexploded ordinance was a warning she had seen on signs and had almost experienced in the manor house. She was a journalist, however, and motivated to get a unique story.
I am a rule follower, especially if the penalty for breaking the rules could be injury or death!!!

While climbing the fence definitely is in line with Liz’s personality, it shows a dangerous disregard for the reality of what happened in the village. Could there be live munitions in her path, far more dangerous than a barbed wire fence? Thinking of that, I wouldn’t have entered the property.

Liz tooks risks I would never have taken, including climbing that barbed wire fence and walking around the village knowing that there were unexploded shells and land mines that she could inadvertently detonate on the premises. Nope. Wouldn't catch me there under any circumstances. But if she didn't take those chances, there would be no story, so I understand why the author had her make those choices to demonstrate how headstrong, determined and, in some ways, foolish and naive she was.
