It didn't surprise me. Ellis loved her unconditionally. Yet he also insisted she do the right thing and turn herself in. Ellis was my favorite character.

Ellis was always CeCe's champion from the time they were young. His reaction was one of someone who loves fiercely and deeply. He definitely had the most integrity of any of the characters.

His anger surprised me. He'd been so smitten with CeCe from the start that I really didn't expect him to yell at her. His ultimate reaction - supporting her, encouraging her to do the right thing so they could have a life together - was more in character.

RE: What did you think of Ellis's ...

Ellis had put up with a lot from CeCe, yet still loved and supported her. When he found out what she'd done - as an attorney no less - and just to sustain what, in his view, was a grasping, materialistic, and ultimately worthless lifestyle, he snapped. It was even worse when he found out what she was willing to do with Mark to cover it up. Yet he supported her - even though she still whined about not wanting to turn herself in because she didn't think she should have to go to jail.

CeCe was definitely not my favorite character and I had a hard time thinking she would ever bring Ellis anything but more heartache.

Ellis's reaction was pretty normal. He loved her but she'd really crossed the line and messed up her life. He helped her, but also held her accountable for her actions. He was a good guy!

I had a difficult time with CeCe. Her decisions were so questionable and her actions really grated. I give Ellis a lot of credit for supporting her. He could have easily walked away

In my opinion, Terah Shelton Harris did and excellent job in character development. For me, if the author doesn't build a strong characterization at the beginning I can lose interest in a story quickly or get confused. If I start with a clear image in my mind I usually am drawn into the story quickly and it is not a DNF. Therefore, I knew from the start Ellis was a good man. He was admirable to stick with CeCe even after he learned of her actions, which was not surprising with his characterization. HIs reaction to the things she had done were true to character of a person who truly loved someone.

Ellis was the most promising character throughout the novel. I never doubted his love for CeCe, and she was quite fortunate to have Ellis in her life.

RE: What did you think of Ellis's ...

Ellis was such a tender, wonderful person. He truly loved CeCe unconditionally, and he wanted her to be her best person. I was glad she recognized his value and tried to be a better person. For CeCe I could see how each lie and misdeed lead to another, bigger lie. She was fortunate that she listened and grew into a better person.

It did not surprise me. I would have thought less of him if he had just brushed it off like it was nothing.

It didn't surprise me and truly "rounded out" the character that Harris created. It wasn't that he didn't feel anger, and rightfully so, but he channeled it so appropriately and quickly returned to his core values and personality. Bravo - we needed a hero!

Ellis was the only one WITH character! He understood what was right and what needed to be done. His reaction wasn't the surprise. I was surprised he stuck around!

RE: What did you think of Ellis's ...

Ellis' reaction was not unexpected. He loved CeCe and was willing to help her in any way he could. But for that to happen, she needed to accept responsibility or what she did.

His reaction exemplified unconditional love. He was always there for her and wanted her to be best she could be. It must have taken a lot for him to convince her to own up to her errors.

It did not surprise me. He knows CeCe better than she knows herself. He holds out hope that she will return to him.

RE: What did you think of Ellis's ...

Ellis was my favorite character, CeCe my least favorite. CeCe got in over head and she was drowning from her decisions. Ellis loved her so deeply that although angry and hurt and exasperated, he was able to forgive her and encouraged her to turn herself in, to do the right thing. That’s what I liked about him the most - he did the right things for the right reasons because they were the right thing to do. A man of integrity.

RE: What did you think of Ellis's ...

Ellis loved CECELIA unconditionally. He had overlooked her past indiscretions.
I wasn’t surprised he left she let herself down by embezzling funds. But he was also very upset at what she did. Interesting I think he’ll wait for her after she turns herself in!!
